Good move, Lois. I didn't think about how to use the completed tab. I would suggest that people check completed on the Plan tab and put their book in the category that they think makes sense. Perhaps letting you or I move it to the completed tab. That will give us the option to move it to some other category where we think it would be more helpful strategically.
Also, I suggest we save up our acorns from pages read or hours of listening until near the end, so we can use them to finish off as many cornucopias as possible.

Edie | 1148 comments Finished Election by Tom Perrotta. Used it for book set in a school.

message 55: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments I'm good with that, Lois. Thanks for answering my question. I'm wondering if we can mark with a color on the Planning Tab which prompts are finished. Maybe one color for finished once, a different color for finished twice, etc.

Today, I'm listening to The Woman on the Orient Express and have about an hour left. I should also be able to finish Gunnar's Daughter later this evening.

message 56: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments Finished The Woman on the Orient Express and added it for Mystery in Cornucopia 5.

message 57: by Kellie Lyn (new)

Kellie Lyn | 211 comments Finally finished Unwind and put as a book published in November. I have to do some grading and lesson plans today but hope to finish another book today. Agatha Raisin and the Haunted House will be an easy read and goes for "author not alive anymore".

message 58: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1148 comments Kathy wrote: "Finished The Woman on the Orient Express and added it for Mystery in Cornucopia 5."

That gives us 3 acorns to complete Cornucopia 5.

message 59: by Becky (new)

Becky | 53 comments It seems like it could make sense to retain the checkmarks somewhere for which categories a book can meet, in case we find that we want to try to rearrange some incomplete cornucopia. But I have a feeling the acorns will be the limiting factor, so this might not really be an issue.

That seems like a good idea Becky. I went and fixed my finished books so that they can be moved if needed. I also shaded the spot where they are at now. Hopefully this does not make the completed page too confusing.

message 61: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments Ok here is the plan....Mark your book complete when you are done on the spreadsheet. Then post here if at all possible. I will then go in and move the book to the Completed Tab and to the Cornucopia. I just coded all of the possible options as gray boxes and left the X on the completed tab where the book is slotted. Let me know if that makes sense.

message 62: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments I see someone just made the catergories red that we have 1 for the Cornucopia. Thats good. I will change the color when we have 2 and so on.

message 63: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments I did that. Glad it's okay. Sounds like a good plan.

I just fixed this. Let me know what you think. Also, I just moved your book upgrade over to completed tab. Can you go on the Cornucopia and add the author please?

message 65: by Becky (new)

Becky | 53 comments Upgrade author added, thank you Lois!

Whoops, sorry Lois, I moved my book I just finished (The Westing Game) over on the Completed Tab before reading the discussion! I put it down for an author who has passed away. I put it on the cornucopia as well. I recorded my minutes/pages read for the day as well.

I'm moving on to reading The Fortunes of Jaded Women tomorrow!

message 67: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments No problemo. We are just trying to save the categories that each book can go for in case we need to move any at some point.

message 68: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
I went back and grayed out the boxes that the book also fit!

message 69: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments I finished Gunnar's Daughter and added my column to Completed, marked an "x" for "a book about family dynamics," and grayed out the prompts it could also fulfill. Also added to the cornucopia. Minutes/pages added too.

We're doing great!

Thanks! Everyone that feels comfortable making those changes can move their own. I will move any that are showing completed when I go in.

message 71: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 224 comments Popped my book into the name in title category. Also works for yellow or animal in the story, so I just put it into the one that was open hope that's okay. (: filled in my hours listened as well, but I've got a bit more reading time tonight. just a couple hours left in Dying for Chocolate!

I am comfortable doing that

message 73: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 348 comments I finished two books today. I put Before Beauty under "A Young Adult novel" and Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind under "a book with a first name in the title."

message 74: by Edie (last edited Sep 11, 2022 07:55PM) (new)

Edie | 1148 comments Lois, as I read the instructions, we have to get 3 acorns to complete a cornucopia, not 4. If that is correct, once we reach 3 completed prompts, we then should use the next completed prompt to start a new cornucopia. So for Corn5, the YA prompt which I think was the most recently completed, would be the start of a 2nd Corn5, not a 4th prompt for our first one. And we have 3 prompts complete for Corn1, so that would be complete too.

Emily, please correct me if I am misunderstanding this. Logically, it would make sense to have to do all 4 prompts, but that is not what the instructions say.

From what I understand, we need to fill all four prompts to fill a cornucopia. The acorns are earned by the amount of pages we read/hours we listen to. So to fill a cornucopia we need to earn 3 acorns (1 acorn=1000 pages or 15 hours) and complete all additional prompts in each cornucopia.

message 77: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2118 comments Well I finished My Wedding Dress: True-Life Tales of Lace, Laughter, Tears and Tulle, so we have the black and white cover, I think. The cover is mostly a black and white photo that has been slightly tinted. That should still count, right?

message 78: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
Deborah is correct, Edie. You need three acorns (gathered from pages read/hours listened) PLUS all four of the prompts filled. I'll go look through the directions again to make sure that was clear.

It would make sense to use our first 3 acorns on Cornucopia 5, since we have all four prompts already filled in, but I'll defer to the captains on how they want to allocate acorns.

Edie | 1148 comments Emily wrote: "Deborah is correct, Edie. You need three acorns (gathered from pages read/hours listened) PLUS all four of the prompts filled. I'll go look through the directions again to make sure that was clear...."

Thanks for the clarification. As I reread the instructions this AM, I guess I must have not read carefully enough. And it does make much more sense to have to complete ALL 4 prompts.

message 80: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments I finished The Prime Minister which I added for black and white cover.
The Prime Minister by Anthony Trollope

Would you say this is a majority orange cover?
The Girls of Slender Means by Muriel Spark

I would ... the top and bottom plus the orange in the middle. Orange is definitely the dominant color.

Kelly Sj | 483 comments My weekend didn't go as planned, but I did put a big dent in Legend during a bout of insomnia last night, and will finish it tonight. Still working on The Bone People also. Looking forward to contributing some completed reads to the group soon!

Great. Thanks, Edie.

message 84: by Kellie Lyn (new)

Kellie Lyn | 211 comments I finished Agatha Raisin and the Haunted House and put it under "Book with a ghost". I am starting Assailants, Asphalt & Alibis which takes the place at a campground. I am also starting Open Season which is also a nature book.

message 85: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments I finished Two Old Women: An Alaskan Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival and added it for "A book set in or about nature." Also added to Cornucopia #2, which is now finished except for Acorns.

message 86: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 348 comments I made progress on The Netanyahus: An Account of a Minor and Ultimately Even Negligible Episode in the History of a Very Famous Family, The Pageant of Chinese History, and Keys to the Demon Prison today. I will most likely finish Keys to the Demon Prison tomorrow. I was planning on using it for Magical realism, but do you all think it would be better to use it for a 400+ page book since longer books are harder to get? What do you think?

message 87: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11215 comments Mod
I love this progress we are making! I feel like I'm definitely contributing less than I normally do with a read-a-thon, but seasons of life and all that. I did prioritize my print book yesterday and ended up reading nearly 100 pages, so that felt good.

(Also, peeking at the other teams' spreadsheets, we are tied for the most acorns accrued so yay!)

message 88: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1148 comments Lois, we have 9 acorns accrued so far. We have completed all four prompts for Cornucopia 3 and 5, and completed them twice for Cornucopia 2. I would suggest we use these 9 acorns to complete Cornucopia 2 (once) and Cornucopia 3 and 5.

Does that make sense to you?

message 89: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1148 comments I completed The Stranger in the Woods: the Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit and put in a book set in or about nature. That completed all the prompts for Cornucopia 2 a 2nd time.

Starting to read Chess Story and Go Tell It on the Mountain

Lois Anderson | 56 comments Deborah wrote: "I made progress on The Netanyahus: An Account of a Minor and Ultimately Even Negligible Episode in the History of a Very Famous Family, The Pageant of Chinese History..."

I feel like we should use it for Magic Realism because we don't have many books for that prompt either and have at least 2 concucopia's worth of the other prompts there for sure! We can always switch around later if we want. I can update the spreadsheet. :)

When I made this challenge, I did not anticipate that acorns would be the thing that would hold everyone back from completing cornucopias! Glad to see this in action lol

Thanks, I will add the book when I finish.

message 95: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2118 comments Sorry I didn't get to check in yesterday. I had some computer issues - I did get to read. I finished Servant Mage, but I can't find a single prompt it fits....

Becky | 53 comments Emily wrote: "When I made this challenge, I did not anticipate that acorns would be the thing that would hold everyone back from completing cornucopias! Glad to see this in action lol"
It didn't immediately occur to me, until I thought about 3000 pages (or audio equivalent) vs 4 books. It's nice that books that don't fit a category can be helpful, though, so this is a nice approach!

message 97: by Deborah (new)

Deborah | 348 comments I finished Keys to the Demon Prison and added it to "A Magical Realism Novel."

message 98: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3334 comments I finished The Girls of Slender Means and added it to "a book with a majority orange cover." Cornucopia 1 is done except for acorns.

message 99: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments I just finished Cop Town by Karin Slaughter and slotted it in for Orange cover on Cornucopia 1 for the 2nd time. We are doing great! Kinda funny that the acorns are what's stopping more from being done. I guess that means don't worry about prompts too much and just read!!!!

message 100: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2118 comments I finished Cast No Shadow and I used it for a book with a ghost.

I'm finding my books don't really work for the prompts, but I am helping out with the acorns.👍
