That's awesome, Lynette. No apologies necessary at all.

this has been such a great group to read with! Everyone has participated and posted. I loved the challenge set up, and the spreadsheets .. just having a really fun time!! KK, now back to work & listening!! LOL

Oh, that really puts it all into perspective. The addition of the acorns in this readathon has put a nice twist into things!

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I never went back and added my hours/pages on the two days I was working for when I finished The Suicide House. I think I'm going to just add it in as all audio hours, because I read like 1 actual chapter but listened to the rest and I'm not sure which chapter it was.

I will definitely finish listening to Other Birds before the read-a-thon is over and am going to try to finish Annihilation as well. That is about all I have time for this weekend!

message 154: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Finished Why Didn't You Tell Me? by Carmen Rita Wong and filled the orange cover prompt for a third cornucopia 1 if we manage the acorns.

We do have 3 more to allocate. I'm so impressed!

message 155: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1027 comments Didn't quite finish I, Alex Cross today, but did finish The Darling Dahlias and the Cucumber Tree and started on Between the World and Me.

As I was recording The Darling Dahlias title I realized that Dahlia is actually the first name of the founder of the Darling garden club which they renamed to honor her in the wake of her death! That means we've now completed a second Cornucopia 2, which in turn means we could really use 12 more acorns to complete 4 more cornucopias! We currently have only 4 acorns to use! I am sitting here laughing as I type this! :)

I hope that tomorrow once I complete I, Alex Cross I'll be in the mood for The Hemingses of Monticello. I wasn't in the mood for nonfiction today. I've also added in a couple of more books so that whatever I'm in the mood for over the next two days I should have a book that I will want to read.

We are too good! LOL :)

Currently reading:
The Once and Future Witches"

I'll be reading this one for a book club in October!

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3268 comments 103 pages today, but still didn't finish anything. I seem to have somehow either bruised or pulled a muscle right by my tailbone, so I kept getting distracted trying to get comfortable. I've also become super congested in the past hour or so. I'm hoping it's just because I forgot my allergy meds today, but several of the participants in the day program I work for have come in with mild cold/allergy symptoms just as we dropped our mask requirements, so it's possible that I've picked something up from them. Hoping I can just sleep it off since I still have a full day of work (at home) to do tomorrow.

message 158: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) I have a busy morning ahead so I will pop in my info for acorns into the spreadsheet and deal with the rest when I get home this afternoon!

message 159: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1500 comments I have 87 pages left in The Cartographers. I’m focusing on reading right now. I hope to finish soon.

message 160: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 568 comments Wow! Lots more pages added since I last checked. I added some acorns to Cornucopia #1; second time.

We have 3 more completed with all books and just need pages; plus a couple more we're close to finishing.

Now ... back to reading. I'm going read a few more pages today with one more coffee, then planning on flipping to audio and housework.

message 161: by JennH (new)

JennH | 557 comments I crashed last night before entering my data. Off to do it now!

Uhm...I'm curious. What is that last word?
"H-O-U-S-E-W-O-R-K"
I'm pretty sure that is not in my vocabulary! LOL ;)

message 167: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1027 comments We currently have 3 unassigned acorns and need 6 more to complete cornucopias that already have the necessary books. I'm off to read!! :)

Team Squash = SUPERB READERS!!!

I hope you feel better and it's nothing serious!

message 169: by JennH (new)

JennH | 557 comments Unfortunately, neither of my books fulfilled empty slots. I just plugged them in anyway. They will at least account for acorns!

Just started Ask Again, Yes for a re-read for book club next week, and Bake, Borrow, and Steal which should be a quick fun read.

Go, Team Squash!!

message 170: by JennH (new)

JennH | 557 comments Oh, I'm also reading Star Wars: Jedi Academy for pages/acorns!

message 171: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1500 comments I finished The Cartographers. I put it under cornucopia #4 magical realism. I think we just need acorns there now. I will start The Unsinkable Greta James next. I don't think I'll finish before Sunday night but I could.

message 172: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 568 comments Go team! Flying through the pages!!
3 acorns assigned to a second Cornucopia 2!

9 more need for second 3,4,5!
:D

message 173: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 568 comments I added more columns to the spreadsheet if anyone needs them.

I'm really close to finishing both my books .. 2 hours more audio and less than 50 pages but heading out now for "halfway to St. Patrick's day" at the local pub.

Will add my totals for today tomorrow and try to squeeze in one more book (or at least more pages) for our last day tomorrow.

message 174: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments I slotted in my YA finish this morning. I've managed to get some reading in today and will just keep working on acorns. I'm not sure that I will have another finish.

message 175: by Lynette (new)

Lynette Floyd | 44 comments I finished Once and Future Witches. The only thing that it might count for is featuring ghosts, but not ghosts like we think of them so I'm conflicted.

I'm starting Beartown (Beartown, #1) by Fredrik Backman so it could count as a book featuring sports. It's a reread so it should be relatively fast for me.

Thanks, I'm about 95% sure it's just allergies since my allergy meds did make a difference (they don't when it's a cold), but I've been congested/runny nose literally all day and it's so annoying!

I did manage to finish off I Kissed Shara Wheeler, and I also listened to the entirety of Sing, Unburied, Sing as an audiobook while working, so at least I accomplished something today.

message 177: by L Y N N (last edited Sep 18, 2022 08:53AM) (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1027 comments I managed to finish 3 books yesterday and am hoping to complete another 2 at minimum today. I hope for another 500+ page day! :) And such excellent books I've read this past week! That always makes me so happy!

I realized that reading in The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family for pages wouldn't be the most efficient use of my reading time since each page is quite long and I do always read the pertinent footnotes as well. So switched off to some lighter weight juvenile fare and a mystery! :)

We currently have 3 more acorns to be posted and would need another 6 to complete 2 more cornucopias. I hope everyone else has had similarly amazing reading experiences during this readathon!

TEAM SQUASH FOR THE WIN! LOL ;)

message 178: by JennH (new)

JennH | 557 comments I finished Ask Again, Yes. It won't fill any "needed" prompts. So I'll just put it in somewhere. I just started Miracle at Augusta which is a short book that can do under yellow cover or sports.

I'll actually finish The Hobbit today. Yay. And I'll read what I can of Bake, Borrow, and Steal to add to the acorns.

What did you think of The Once and Future Witches?Curious since I'll be reading it next month.

Are you rereading Beartown in preparation for the third book The Winners to be released later this month? I am so anxious for this third book! I love Backman's writing and this series is just marvelous, IMO!

message 180: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1500 comments I finished The Unsinkable Greta James. I haven’t had a chance to see if it fits anywhere. There is orange & red on the cover if that helps. If someone see a fit feel free to put it there. I’m going out but will check back in later.

message 181: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1500 comments Okay. The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith . Since the team challenge is low stakes I'm thinking it will work for orange or yellow cover. What do you all think?

message 182: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 478 comments I finished Other Birds and marked it on the spreadsheet. I'm going to listen to Ghost (Track, #1) by Jason Reynolds while I'm at work. Its short so I'll be able to finish it. It could work for yellow cover, school, or sport.

I think it works for either one!

message 184: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) I completely forgot to add my pages/hours from yesterday. I just added those and what I have read so far today. I'm hoping to get a few more pages in before I fall asleep tonight!

message 185: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1500 comments Great. I put it under cornucopia #1 orange cover. We just need acorns on a few of them.

message 186: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1500 comments I want to thank everyone for an enjoyable week. Amy & Sheena thank you for a great job. I put in my totals for today & caught everything up.

message 187: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3268 comments Finished off with one last book completed - the special edition of A Monster Calls, which is 360 pages including all the extra content.

message 188: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 568 comments Well, that was a lot of fun!!!

I added my books read this weekend, and allotted a few more acorns.

So far, we have completed 9 cornucopias with 2 acorns left over. If anyone has more pages we might manage one more filled. That's some impressive reading, team Squash!!

message 189: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Sorry team, my Sunday reading was a bit of a bust. It has been such a great read-a-thon and I enjoyed reading with you all!

message 190: by L Y N N (last edited Sep 19, 2022 06:52AM) (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1027 comments Everyone did marvelously! I entered my total for Sunday and now there are 3 acorns to be assigned. I'll let Sheena or Amy assign those. That means we completed 10 Cornucopias! A nice round number!

So fun to talk with you-all this week while we read!

Interesting how the acorns changed up the readathon a bit. Anxious to see what they come up with for the next readathon! :)

I'm off to...read! Well, I have to bake and cook today, but I'm going to read a bit first! :)

The IRL book club I facilitate meets tomorrow for the first time since COVID hit! I'm baking a cake for our treat! Soooooo excited to see everyone again!

message 191: by °~Amy~° (last edited Sep 19, 2022 07:01AM) (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) I added the three acorns to Cornucopia #5. We completed two whole sets of cornucopias! WOW!

Thank you all for being such a fun, active group. I have had a lot of fun with you all this week!

message 192: by JennH (new)

JennH | 557 comments Another readathon done! Whew! 10 cornucopias! Wow! Every bit of reading and listening was always important in a readathon but with the acorns, it counted more than ever. Great job, all! It was great fun reading with you, Team Squash!

message 193: by Sheena (new)

Sheena Davis (sheenad) | 568 comments I loved the strategy of the acorns. Unfortunately I didn't figure it out until late in the game, but loved how mid-challenge it changed the focus from prompts to pages. It's also a nice feature to allow books that don't fit a prompt to still be really helpful.

This was a great read-a-thon, and you all were amazing teammates.

I just cleaned up our spreadsheet a bit. I was so focused on reading yesterday, I didn't really take the time to slot my books into prompts. Done now. 63 books & 10 completed cornucopias is pretty darned good, I think!
