Tammy Croft | 1 comments In the late 1990s/ early 2000s I read a book under the Nocturne imprint from either Harlequin or Silhouette Books. It was about a newcomer to s Southern town who had bought an old mansion/plantation house to turn it into a haunted house that centers around the story of a man damned to be a werewolf. ( the haunted house, not the book! ) Someone thinks that the newcomer is a werewolf or his wolf dogs are and goes after him. The book opens when the newcomer meets the owner of the local bookstore while looking for some information on witchcraft and they become enmeshed in each other's lives. (He also dries an old hearse.) The bookstore owner is part of the local coven and they clash over his treatment of witchcraft in the haunted house. The hunter trying to kill a werewolf at least thinks he is one and confronts them in the haunted house where the bookstore owner uses her abilities and psychology to talk the hunter down. The book leaves it open ended if there actually are werewolves. I seem to remember that the book was the second in a series within the Nocturne imprint that was called "The Coven" or had 'coven' in the series name. And I think I remember that the cover was purple but it might not be.
