Task 8 - 49. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.

As a team select a month and year, then each teammate reads a book initially published in that month and year. Make sure you use the initial publication date. If there is a date at the top of the editions page, use it. Otherwise, I will be looking for the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format for the qualification. Please include the selected month/year combo in your completion posts.

that works for me - there's a book on there I'm way overdue reading
but if you guys want to pick something else that's fine for me too

message 210: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 4055 comments I'm doing both as well lol I just meant see if any of us have books that come from the same month/year.

Mine are Jan 2013 (Lol at us choosing that) and Aug 2017. BUT I can definitely find something from May 2022

message 211: by Janeylou (new)

Janeylou | 2988 comments Well Dirty Laundry is Jan 13 and BDSM , so i can do that

message 212: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 4055 comments Mine is my BDSM book as well but I'm re-reading Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts. Weird that there are two books from that month/year on the list

message 213: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookoutbelow) | 4055 comments Well, it does seem like there are like "cycles" of certain tropes/themes in MM books. Like a year ago I feel like there were very few model MM books and a number of "bigger" name MM authors seem to have recently released model books. I also feel like BDSM is on the decline and now only with more authors that write strictly BDSM romances, when a year or two ago nearly everyone was dabbling in it. It's definitely interesting.

The Haunting of Timber Manor by F.E. Feeley Jr.

Review: What an excellent ghost story! Incredibly creative, with tons of unexpected twists and turns, I enjoyed every minute of F.E. Feeley Jr.'s The Haunting of Timber Manor.

I listened to the audio version. The narrator, Tony Stone, has great enthusiasm and uses a tremendous variety of different voices for this varied cast. There are some clever sound effects, which helps to increase the drama and dark atmosphere.

Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts by Lyn Gala

Review: The world building in this one was bananas, you really start to comprehend what it is like to live on Rownt and what it is they value. Because of the language barrier, you really got to know and understand both MCs, even with only one point of view. There is a time jump which can be kind of jarring if you don't know about it going into it, but I'm glad it was there, as it made the flow better. There are also themes of hurt/comfort and even some friends-to-lovers that I don't think you normally get out of sci-fi books

Task 9 - 18. Read over 750 pages in books tagged/shelved with 'favorite'.

Books selected for this task need to be tagged as ‘favorite’, variations of the work will be allowed. Combo tags will be allowed in context, ‘not my fave’ will not be allowed. Please include a link to the top shelves page showing your qualifying tag along with the number of tags and the page number of the top shelves page. The extra info is extremely helpful if the link is broken or the tag moves and both frequently happen! Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count.

Review:
I had some issues with the translation being a bit untrue. Which in turn lent itself to issues with the audio performance.

All the tales are about young women. Most are centered around their relationships with men. My favorite though, was the story about the woman who was poisoned in her work cafeteria.

Review: Very funny. I've enjoyed Mark Steadman's performance, and JL Merrow's droll sense of humor. It's a terrific series.
Funny, and very sweet, Mark's story kinda broke my heart.

Thankfully he crafted a lovely new life for himself with the quirky folks in Shamwell.

I'm a little sad that this is my final book in the series, luckily I've got a re-read pile!

Review: I adore ABO shifter books so when my favorite writing duo decided to write one I was alll over it. This book had everything that I personally look for in what I consider a good ABO book: well developed and interesting shifter politics, strong omegas who buck awful stereotypes, alphas who show their strength through more than just their claws, and, of course, some super steamy knotty scenes. I was hooked into the world from the very beginning, and I believe there are so many wonderful ways this series could be taken. There are a lot of unanswered questions, it is the first in the series after all, but there’s a strong romance HEA for two characters who absolutely deserve it. If you’re a fan of these types of stories, definitely pick this one up, you won’t regret it. Also, it’s ABO but no signs of Mpreg, so if that was making you hesitant no need to worry
