A book about some boy getting a watch

I dont really remember that much but I remember a boy get a watch and then he goes on a boat or dock with his dad or something and then it gets magnetized or something (i dont really know it was just a fenomomon that made his watch break ) it was released around 1970 to 2000
ALSO it came with a watch and it was a childrens book

It was more of a picture book i read it a few years ago but it was my mums old book

No it was in english i remember
