Phoebe and West connect through his knowledge about farming and estate management. We know that he had no experience in these matters before Devon inherited the Trenear title. What did his new body of knowledge and skill tell you about West? Where did this come from?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3485 comments It shows that West is more intelligent and resourceful than most people in his circle gave him credit. It also shows that he isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. He jumped in to research everything he could find to help his brother. When he came to know the tenants, he redoubled his efforts to make them successful. A successful boss/manager will do anything he asks his staff to do. West is that type of manager. It is the foundation that builds respect and loyalty.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments He saw a challenge and decided that hard worthwhile work was a better life than a desolate London Rake. He threw himself into making the estate profitable for his brother and the tenants also.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments West is a smart guy who was living a nearly useless life as a rake and a drunk. He promised his brother that he would help him with his estates and he meant it. He decided to learn everything there was to know about the land and the tenants. He learned all about farming techniques and how to apply them to the situations. (I would be so bored reading about farming.)

Underneath all that aimless living was a man just looking for a life other than the one most of the privileged were expected to follow. He was smart, resourceful and wanting to apply himself. The Trenear estate was tailor made for West. That skill was always there.
