Fantasy - Boy saves the world, I think. Not children's or YA? book. Read around 2000-2004.

The book cover reminds me of The EYE OF THE WORLD- The wheel of time series.

I believe its a young teen boy, I don't remember the specific plot. I do remember at one point he's in a carriage and has to hide from the villians. He's in some kind of enchanted forest and the roots start grabbing at him. I THINK there may be a wizard and a tower in the book. The book definitely has the word flabbergasted in it because It was the first time I heard/read the word and it was amazing to me. I would've read it in high school (but not for school) so around 2000-2004 and I believe the book was written in the 80's or 90's. It was not a childrens book and I don't believe it was a YA either because it was my moms book and she didn't read YA.
