If we can make it sound appetising we can use it

Laura | 5524 comments I finished one. Seriously, in the first 3 books of the series the characters sat down to elaborate dinners, with each dish being named. And they went to the college cafeteria, with their lunch options being listed. And in this one, the ate dinner. They pulled the pre-prepared lunch out of the refrigerator. It was a totally different approach to the food in the book!

Starting another one tonight/tomorrow. Hopefully it has better food. :)

Louise | 3331 comments We have space for one more book.
I’ll have the rest of the books (15) converted into meals today 😀

message 105: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I did most of the descriptions last night. I ran out of energy to be creative though.

message 106: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments 4 books left which I will complete first thing in the morning just over 20 hours to go.

Still space for 1 book

message 109: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments OK. I’ll finish it tonight.

message 110: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I might not be around much during the day tomorrow but I've got the meals all caught up as much as I could. If someone can fill in the last one whatever it ends up being, then we'll be good to go.

Laura | 5524 comments I just got a little excited when a bar patron in my book ordered a Sex on the Beach and a Flaming Orgasm. 🤣

Just your last book to go Laura

Give me about 5 minutes and I'll have it entered on the spreadsheet. I stayed up late because I had to see this couple get their HEA!

message 115: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments It's all in there!

message 116: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Finished creating meals. Just need to finalize the descriptions.

Look at the Crowds Result
We came in 10th so for round 2 we have the following

8-10 Now known as "cheap and cheerful" you attract families which mean messy children. Try some new, more popular, dishes to attract your target group for round 2.
Meals with the word "kale", "bamboo", or "kiwi" in the text or title, or used as a spell-it-out will attract more adults for round 2

message 117: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Does everything stay the same for next month? Same menu items? New Monthly special?

Off to search for Kale! :)

message 118: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments If anyone is reading (or wants to read) Shelly Laurenston, In a Badger Way has about 100 'bamboo' in the text. The MC is a panda shifter, so there you go...

Louise | 3331 comments Laura wrote: "Does everything stay the same for next month? Same menu items? New Monthly special?

Monthly special is new for this season. Everything else stays the same with the addition of the special ingredients to entice more adults

message 120: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Finished meal descriptions now to wait for the customers.

message 121: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I’ve got In a Badger Way on my Kindle. And I’ve read the first one in that series.

Louise | 3331 comments Round 2
Round 1 Complete - what to expect for round 2

Thanks cooks, chefs and kitchen hands - you have survived the opening of your restaurant and round 1 customers. Phew!

Frozen Meals from round 1 not consumed
Can be used in round 2. You should copy and paste these from your Shop Front Round 1 to the Shop Front Round 2 tab (Note: column D on the round 2 tab won't populate - don't worry we will fix it up)

Desserts, Drinks and Cocktails from round 1 not consumed
Can be used in round 2 or round 3. You should copy and paste those you want to use in round 2 from your Shop Front Round 1 to the Shop Front Round 2 tab (Note: column D on the round 2 tab won't populate - don't worry we will fix it up)

Fresh Food from round 1 not consumed
Fresh food not used will be rotten unless you received tips from adults to preserve.
The amount of tips you have from round 1 is directly attributable to your "Look at the crowds!!" Place.

Place Tips
Top 3 20% of adults tipped

4-7 15% of adults tipped

• 8-10 10% of adults tipped

11-14 5% adults tipped

Adults were pretty crumby tippers in round 1, but now your doors are open and you have media buzz, expect much higher tip rates in round 2!

If you have Fresh food from round 1 you are preserving by using a tip, copy and paste those you want to use in round 2 from your Shop Front Round 1 to the Shop Front Round 2 tab (Note: column D on the round 2 tab won't populate - don't worry we will fix it up)

Look at the crowds!! Place
All teams have received a placing which is available on the Status Sheet.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

• In round 2, enter the word you find (if doing a scavenger hunt) related to your Place in the justification column on your kitchen tab ; and then when creating the meal tick the highlighted box (column G) on the shop front tab.

• Books read cap
For round 2, it is 90 books per team

• Customers round 2
The exact number of customers won't be known until they arrive, but be sure it will increase for round 2 as your restaurants gain in popularity!!

• Favourite customer meals for round 1 - just for fun and team kudos

Please send us your nominations - we will also post our favourites :)

Louise | 3331 comments Round 2 More Info

• Month 2 Special

• Kids love chicken nuggets and waffle fries! This is your FRESH Special for month 2
◈ Chicken nuggets and waffle fries (chicken, bread or bread crumbs, salt, egg, flour, potato, oil
Must contain chicken, potato and oil.

• Month 2 Bonuses
Use your spell-it-outs and scavenger hunts to find items to keep kids entertained. Think board games, crayons, toys, books, peg games, tablets, face painting, clowns.... use your imagination!!
You can find up to 20 items in total and these are listed as "FRESH BONUS" within your spreadsheet

• Month 2 Customers

Your "look at the crowds" placing may impact the types of customers you receive more of for round 2. You can counteract this for round 3 and attract more adults by finding the special ingredients

message 128: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments I’ve allocated meals and requested customer swaps (teens for adults). Once we’ve received the swaps I’ll finalize the customer meals and move the alcohol and preserved over to R2

Laura | 5524 comments Just finished one that referenced several video games by name, so I've included them. I don't know if we can use them for the kids if they don't also reference a game system, but just in case. Also they watched High School Musical, so I'm including that as well. :)

ETA: They also did Rock, Paper, Scissors. Don't know if we can entertain the kiddos with that, but put it on the spreadsheet just in case.

message 130: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Heading back home today, thank you Stacie for your help with the sheet while I was away. After we have fed everyone bar a few hungry teens, although by their very nature teens are always hungry, we are currently in 5th place.

@Laura Rock, paper, scissors can definitely be used to entertain the kids. My brother and I used to play as kids although it would end up in an argument as one of us would inevitably accuse the other of cheating.

message 131: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) IF there are any particularly good meal descriptions, we should send them to the mod account.

message 132: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Just finished one that I know had lots of stuff in it, but I was listening, so now I have to hope I remember half of what I heard. :)

message 133: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments While reading In a Badger Way I happily highlighted every instance of the word Bamboo. It wasn't until I was nearly done that I realized we can only use the book 8 times, so any more than that is overkill. :)

message 134: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I'm just going to keep a list of my audios. If we need them, I'll search for the words, but if we don't end up needing them, I don't want to spend the time. :)

Yeah, I finished a book that had a crap-ton of dessert terms (she was a candy maker) AND kids entertainment terms. Then I realized it was less than 300 pages, so very limited to what we could actually use there...

message 137: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I have now found vinegar twice this month. And both were in Historical Romances! That is not where I was expecting to find vinegar. One was apple cider vinegar used on the hair, and the other was regular vinegar used in a poultice.

message 138: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Vinegar does pop up in the most random of places. Although this month with more kids we won’t need as much vinegar

message 139: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments I have 5 or 6 books I need to upload into the spreadsheet. I'll try to do that tonight. I know one of them had kale in it.

I also keep forgetting about the kid entertainment... I'll have to try to dig on that a little on a couple.

message 140: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I read Big Bad Beast, but I purchased it as part of a 4 book bundle of Shelly Laurenston's books. It's book #3 in the bundle. So the locations are all screwed up.

Louise, is it okay if I just put the locations I have from my Kindle? The book is searchable on Amazon, so if you let me know the items you end up using, I can search for them to find the real page numbers.

message 141: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments My current audio has Kale 3 times! She's a food vlogger, so I should get some good items in there, and it's over 500 pages!

That’s fine Laura. I’m going to spend some evenings this week to log our books and food and get rid of my “post-it” notes

message 143: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments FYI: I currently have 4 audios finished for this month that I haven't put on the spreadsheet. Just too lazy to do it unless we need them, since they take more effort. But 2 of them are over 500 pages, so I imagine that we probably will want at least those two.

message 144: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I just posted one that I was ridiculously excited about. They started making rogan josh, which I had to look up. It’s a type of curry! And then they talked about the ingredients. And later they made fried chicken, complete with flour and bread crumbs!

message 145: by Stacie (new)

Sound lush. Love Rogan josh

message 147: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments No need to look for any more kid activities we’re maxed out

message 148: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I have 3 audios that are over 500 pages. Do you want me to put them in, Louise?

Also, I listened to The Martian. Lots of Potatoes in that one, but that's probably about it. :)
