So the scavenger words are the items that make up the dish? Is the spell-out for the name of the dish?"

It’s generally easier to use the scavenger hunt words, last time we played I used the spellout option for 3 dishes in 3 months,

Louise | 3331 comments If anyone is reading The Paris Apartment I just found Vinegar 🎉

message 53: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments I added my first book. Let me know if you have a preferred way to enter the scav words and locations.

Laura | 5524 comments So, if I'm reading The People of Sparks, which has Childrens MPG, and it mentions specific fruits, those can't be used for desserts because it is (a) Children's and (b) less than 500 pages?

Also, I entered this one of the spreadsheet. Did I do it right?

message 56: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I think I just found a record for the number of times vinegar is in a book.

Louise | 3331 comments I’m going to spend time on the weekend to pull some meals together. 🤞

Looks good Laura

Children’s books need to have a verified word count; if there is no verified word count available we can only use it for Fresh dishes.
Desserts can only be made with items from books of >500 pages. Still list sweet items though as they can go in other dishes.

message 60: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments That one is on arbookfind. I think it was 70,000+.

message 61: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Question: if something is mentioned more than once in a book, should I put that item on the spreadsheet multiple times? I noticed Stacie had a book with a lot of strawberries, so I figured I should check.

message 62: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments If Chicken Curry is specifically mentioned in my book, does that get us anything, or do we still need to build the components of the dish?

message 63: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments We can use ingredients as often as they are found in a book.
We can use chicken curry as an ingredient, curry itself needs a minimum of 10 ingredients so to use as a curry we’d need to bulk it out

Laura | 5524 comments Any tips for noting the foods in audiobooks? Right now I'm just going to Amazon's look inside and searching for the suggested words, plus any that I can remember. But I'm sure there were probably more in Orange Mint and Honey. I'm about to try to find the words in Totally Folked, and I'm sure I'll miss some!

Not really, I have this same problem with audios, when working from home I have a post-it note that I pop words on as I hear them then use Amazon for a location, more difficult to do when I’m in the office and need to rely on memory.

My non-fiction for Quidditch was an audio. I know some food was mentioned. Now to try to find it! :)

Laura | 5524 comments Before I search Silver Borne for all the words, quick question. Do the page numbers/locations matter? Amazon's Look Inside only has the Kindle edition, so I can't search, and Google Books does not appear to have page numbers. I listened to it, rather than having an ebook.

Just note the words, I can access a copy of this for locations 🙂

Laura | 5524 comments Thanks, Louise. I’ll get that done later today.

Got them added. I'm adding all my Quidditch books right now. But, I read Watership Down. That's pretty much only going to be salad words. :)

message 71: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I just read in the Q&A that words in the title are allowed. So that's another Vinegar for Vinegar Girl. I'll add that to the spreadsheet.

message 72: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I have a few books I read that aren't on the sheet because they don't have any food words. I can put them there if we end up needing to do a spell it out.

Put them on the tracker, I’ve been working through them today to come up with dishes.

message 74: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I just added Other Birds to the spreadsheet. A couple of the dishes, from a restaurant, the description of them sounded so yummy that I included that in there. We're suppose to describe our dishes to entice our customers, right?

Louise | 3331 comments We have nearly reached our 80 book limit for round 1.

Can I get a volunteer to help with inputting meals into the s/sheet. Going on vacation next week and am conscious that I may not have the time that I need over the next few weeks to collate the information.

I'm terrified that I will screw it up, and desperately hoping that Stacie, who has prior knowledge of this challenge, will volunteer!

message 78: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I can probably do a little. I am very much on the verge of a small burnout so I'm taking a break from literally everything from 9/28 to 10/3 but will be around. Sounds like we are about to hit 80 anyway so it might not be a lot of work.

message 79: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments Are we at our limit? So no more tracking for this round? Or can they be used next round (not like we'll have a problem reading enough next round...)

message 80: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments We have 6 spaces, removed anything below 150pgs and spellout only options

message 81: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments Louise wrote: "We have 6 spaces, removed anything below 150pgs and spellout only options"

Okay, I have a couple I haven't added yet. I'll try to get to them tonight. If I don't, it won't be until Thursday. Will that be too late?

message 82: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments That's fine :)

Laura | 5524 comments I have 2 over 500 pages scheduled for the next few days. Hopefully they have good food!

Nom Nom Nom

message 85: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I added our description though it's too late for the poll. Ah well. Louise, what do you need me to do while you're on vacation?

message 86: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) It looks like we're done with books and Louise has added almost everything. Louise, if you see this, I can start doing some descriptions of meals if you want to finish things up and then we can all just read and not find food words for a couple of days :D

message 87: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments So, don’t post my long books? I’m reading them now. Does a few more items impact our bottom line?

message 88: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I'm not 100% sure. I'm hoping to hear from Louise tomorrow so we know where we stand because I think we have a few more meals to create based on what I'm seeing but I could be interpreting wrong.

message 89: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Hi all, got to our accommodation late yesterday, it’s now 3am. I’ve sorted internet out. Stacie if you could add in our “tasty” meal descriptions that would be great. I also need to add in the links for the BOM’s

We have space for 3 books 🙂

Laura | 5524 comments I’ve got multiples over 500 planned for Hogwarts Cup this week. Just tell me when to stop. Should have the first one posted tomorrow.

message 92: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I'm sorry, I'm so confused. Where are all of the words being used hiding? I need them to make descriptions of the meals, right? I only see a few.

message 93: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Stacie wrote: "I'm sorry, I'm so confused. Where are all of the words being used hiding? I need them to make descriptions of the meals, right? I only see a few."

I’d hidden the completed meals, unbidden now

message 94: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I may have completely lost my mind with these descriptions I'm writing. If you hate them, let me know lol.

message 95: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Hey Louise, can you check meal 20? You have it as tea and coffee.

message 96: by Stacie (last edited Sep 27, 2022 05:17PM) (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Also meal 21 is listed as a quiche for kitchen but coffee/tea on shop front. I've highlighted in yellow what look like issues for several meals. Some are numbered twice and I'm not sure what's what. Just look for the yellow on both sheets. I've gone through the whole thing looking for issues and will come back and do more meals tomorrow. I need a break now.

message 97: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Thank you Stacie, I’ve fixed most of the problems, changed them to red. It really helps having a second set of eyes to go over things. Loving the descriptions, they’re better than anything I could have come up with 😀

Got about 20 books left to pull meals from so should be done tomorrow at the latest.

message 98: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Just added When Gracie Met the Grump, 638 pages. I've got another over 500 pages that should go a bit faster than Gracie went. I should be done with it tomorrow. Or actually, it's now today.

message 99: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I've got 2 additional ones over 500 pages planned for Hogwarts cup this week. I can save them for a Saturday finish if we want them for next month. Just let me know what works best for us!

message 100: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I could be mistaken, but one of our sandwiches appears to be a burger. I saw in the Q&A that burgers would not be allowed as sandwiches. Or did I read something wrong?
