A scientist and overly confident man create something otherworldly.

It starts out which a man in a mailroom who hates his mundane life one day he finds a letter that changes his perspective on the world he suddenly leaves his jobs and travels a long time there's a scene where he just lays in a hotel room and bugs are crawling all over him he then has unprotected sex with a women who ends up pregnant much later in the book. He finds a scientist who he works with to create this very powerful machine but the scientist becomes fearful of what the man will do with it I can't remember what happens at that part but flash forward to the next chapter and it follows the scientists son and the enigmatic mans son they both have some sort of powers/abilities one good one evil which they dont understand neither meet until a good ways into the book there's also a girl the scientists son likes shes either the madman's child or the scientists child that I can't remember either the mad mans son ends up calling himself death kid or something like that because his power burns the skin off his head appearing only as a skull during their final fight while bothe the madman and scientist fight powered up as well... That all I can remember. Any help would be much appreciated.
