Frank (jingleheimer) | 15 comments I read this book around 1999. It must have been published in the '80s or 90's. I believe the target audience was tweens.
In this book, the protagonist (a boy, I think) gets taken by a man who seems to be committing arson after arson, keeping the boy locked in his vehicle as he goes from crime scene to crime scene.
The main character begins experiencing feelings of Stockholm syndrome.
The setting is small-town, or maybe straight-up country. I remember at one point in the book, one of the characters is hiding in a barn, or setting fire to a barn.
If memory serves, most of the book takes place at night.
I have pored over the titles of scores of youth fiction books featuring "arson" as a major plot keyword, but none of them are a match...
Does anyone have any ideas here?

Twelve-year-old Ricky receives a strange phone call from a street preacher he knows in New York City and is drawn into a confusing tangle of arson, blackmail, and kidnapping.

Capn | 3506 comments There's a short list for Arson you might like to rule out:

Frank (jingleheimer) | 15 comments It MAY have been Flash Point, from that list Capn shared. However, i am having a helluva time finding any plot details whatsoever for Flash Point, short of actually getting my hands on a physical copy again (which I WILL do, if necessary). But that title strikes me as very familiar.

Capn | 3506 comments Flash Point is tough to look up - Mary Francis Shura (as listed here) got married and changed her name to M S Craig, I believe...

Capn | 3506 comments Here are some (external) links, if you want to risk it (bad practice, I know):

"'Any other time,' Ash Porter wrote Luke Adams. 'Things are out of hand here on the mountain, with a firebug loose and a loaded gun inside every cabin door.' Ten years away from the Sierras, Luke ignored Ash's warnings and those of his estranged daughter, Linden. Ash, now wheelchair-bound after a near fatal accident, had raised Luke, and Luke was going home. In Luke's first twenty-four hours, a boy died in a flaming garage, another cabin was bombed, and Sheriff Dodge, Luke's high school enemy, identified Luke's car as having been seen leaving the inferno."

Capn | 3506 comments I have another list, if you feel like a browse (again, under-powered at the moment, only about 50 books listed):

Frank (jingleheimer) | 15 comments You have hit the nail right on the head. The book I was thinking of is _Night of Fear_ by Peg Kehret, without a doubt. Thank you all for your help!

Rainbowheart | 28705 comments Great news, glad it's solved!

I spent some time building up the That Fire Was No Accident! list, so now it's a better resource for arson books.
