a book with a child protagonist.
This could be a kids or YA book or it could be book for adults written from a child's perspective like To Kill a Mockingbird

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue and The Lady's Gui..."</i>
Yup and books like
[book:Miss Benson's Beetle,
These Broken Stars,
Fireborn,
Viper's Daughter,
The Left Hand of Darkness (although pronouns are he, the premise is basically a planet of non binary people)
Coasting: Running Around the Coast of Britain – Life, Love and (Very) Loose Plans,
Meet Me in Another Life,
The Girl of Ink and Stars,
The Botanist's Daughter,
The Voyage of Freydis,
A Winter's Promise,
Mortal Engines,
The Psychology of Time Travel

I second this one.

Thanks, I had missed that one altogether!

Thanks, I had missed that one altogether!

Michelle, which one was it?

I would second this one if it could be reworded to what Robin P wrote
A book you had to wait for

I'll second this one
I'll take that one, since it's the same wording as the original. Meghan, you can suggest or second something else.

Are you and Miles ok with the change Emily suggested? I'll put it ..."
I'm OK with "A book with a female or nonbinary main character who is an explorer/traveller"
As there is a lot of discretion with how people take part it makes sense to shorten the list to explorer/traveller but I chose main character as it might be more understood that there are multiple main characters but possibly not as clear that there can be multiple protagonists.

ONE space left! I seconded the homage."
Right, thanks!

Right, thanks!

I know there was some discussion about the most respectful wording but if you'd like to propose it in some form, go ahead. I think "character with a disability" is more favored than "disabled character" - seems minor but gives the person more agency. If any of the original folks who discussed this want to chime in, please do.

In the UK disabled character is better as it is seen as people are disabled by barriers. An example is a wheelchair user is disabled by access only by stairs not by being a wheelchair user. Social model of disability as opposed to medical model.
Ok, common phrase was seconded first so it is the last one. Please continue to workshop the disability one in the Wild Discussion, and maybe find several people who would like to propose it for the next poll. Poll 4 will be the multi-week poll, so Poll 5 will be the next time to submit it. There is definitely interest.

Good to know, we definitely should have this one at the next opportunity.

Hmm... I like this. Would have seconded this had I checked before the list was filled.

Would have seconded it had I been on this string earlier.

It is on the poll #13 it just got reworded.

Thanks Michelle! That was my idea. I didn't suggest it this week because I had another suggestion that I had been working on earlier. Very happy that you were interested enough in the idea to bring it up yourself.
I thought we had worked out the wording, but I see that what we thought was acceptable wording is not the same around the world. I hope we can come up with wording that will be appropriate no matter where you are.

Hi Louise, the nominations are complete for this round. You can hold onto that one for poll 5 suggestions. (Poll 4 will be for multi week suggestions and yours is singular).

Voting will start at some point today. You can always view the schedule at this post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I like the idea of reading #23, so please be sure to suggest again!!
hmmm ... writing it out like that reminds me that Michael Jordan was #23 ...

I liked the idea but not book #23 in my TBR, it's a bit long... maybe with 23 in it so I can read 123 or 230? (ooo, I just added 230 to my library list)

We had a prompt like this a while back, like maybe 20th on your TBR/shelf and I just kept counting my books in different ways (alphabetically, by date, left to right, etc.) till I came up with one I wanted. I have MANY books in my house but some of our members get all theirs from the library and book #23 may not be available when they want it. We also might have some amazingly disciplined members who don't keep more than 10 or 20 books on their Want to Read. (I have hundreds myself.) Still, I do like the idea of tying in the number 23 somehow.
I think the prompt was just "The 20th book" and you could interpret that however you'd like. I listed all the books I owned in alphabetical order and went with the 20th there, since I don't use my To Read list on Goodreads very efficiently lol

Same here!!! I have many lists that I created for different monthly tags, topics, and for different challenges, and I reorder them in different ways. It's not even that it's a freebie for me, I don't want to feel like I'm cheating. My goodreads To-read folder has thousands of books, so it's not really a TBR. The 23rd book in that folder (if ordered by the date it was added), would be from the first year I joined goodreads, and my tastes have changed a lot since then. (I also enter a lot of giveaways, and those books get automatically.)

Pamela wrote: "Wow, you're all making me feel lazy in the Care and Feeding of my TBR list!"
Me too! I can see it would be helpful for challenges if I put my TBR into categories that might match various challenges, like genre, setting, theme, etc. But I can't see taking all that time when I could be reading a book. I already spend way too much time on all my GR groups and challenges!
