For our 2022 group reads, we will be having alternates for each of our monthly reads. So for August we have chosen two books each - Cosy mystery/Hard mystery - therefore members will have four to choose from when you vote in the poll. (Once again, all Aussie authors)

Our choices are:

Flip-Flops and Murder (Barefoot Sleuth #1) by H.Y. Hanna Flip-Flops and Murder by H.Y. Hanna

Welcome to the deadliest beach resort in Florida - in USA Today bestselling author H.Y. Hanna's new cozy mystery series!

English girl Ellie is a 'fish-out-of-water' when she arrives in sunny Florida for a vacation with her aunt at a beach resort. But she's barely dipped her toe in the ocean before she stumbles on a sinister murder. Now Ellie must battle jet lag, sunburn, and a cheeky parrot named Hemingway, while trying to unravel the mystery. With a writers' conference in full flow, there's no shortage of suspects. Is the killer a jealous rival author? Or the victim's secret lover? And why are some of the resort staff behaving so suspiciously?

Asylum (Delaney & Murphy #1) by Jack Adams Asylum by Jack Adams

Something happened here. Behind these walls, in these rooms, on the grounds, at the river. The inmate sketched it all – fine lines. See there, in the negative space, the truth in the pencil strokes. Then he was gone.

Joe was their friend; the man they spoke to through the wire fence of the Lunatic Asylum, and 10-year-old best friends, Nathan Delaney and Adam Murphy, knew he wasn’t insane. Then, one day, Joe was gone.

Scone with the Wind (Baker's Dozen Paranormal Cozy #1) by L.E. Gordon Scone with the Wind by L.E. Gordon

It’s not every day that you find a dead body, are outed as a witch, and find out your right hand woman is a creature from a fairy tale.

Kitty Anderson is just a run-of-the-mill kitchen witch living a quiet life running her bakery - until she finds her friend, dead, with one of her delicious scones in front of him. Realising there is something fishy about Malcolm’s death, Kitty sets out to discover who is responsible with the help of David, Malcolm’s handsome nephew, and Mrs Mac, her formidable right hand woman and Brownie familiar.

The Family Man by Anna Willett The Family Man by Anna Willett

A householder who is clearing out the loft comes across a carefully concealed box containing a video camera.

When he plugs it in, unsure due to its age that it will even play, what he sees there has him immediately calling the police.

Senior Sergeant Veronika Pope and her team in the Special Crime Squad study the footage of the torture of four individuals held captive, all physically and mentally abused.
