Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 335 comments This show is a little different from what's usually discussed in this section. It's interesting though and I think it approaches i/r relationships from various perspectives. The main character, Barry, who's white, had a major secret crush on Iris, a black girl. And she's involved with a white cop who is her father's partner. In addition to all that, Iris and Barry were raised as brother and sister when Barry's mother was murdered years ago. So we also have a touching family vibe between Iris, Barry, and the cop father. There's even another friend from another ethnic group (Philippino? Hispanic?)

So I'm wondering if anyone else is watching and what your thoughts are.

Debbie (halfpint66) | 221 comments I love the show. I didn't get the idea that Barry and Iris was raised as brother and sister because Iris's dad wasn't surprised or even upset when Barry finally came clean about his feelings for Iris. In fact I think her dad would prefer Barry for Iris over his idiot partner,,,,,,,,,,,,,I don't care for the dad's partner, can you tell? LOL! There's just something about him I don't like.

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 335 comments I'm not crazy about the stubborn cop boyfriend either. But I do think Iris and Barry were raised like siblings, as in foster siblings, or step siblings, or roommates. No reason for people in that situation not to fall in love. Iris obviously thinks of him like a brother. And even though her dad treats Barry like a son, that wouldn't stop him from recognizing Barry's feelings. Anyway since Barry's big reveal to Iris, he seems to be settling into the brotherly role gracefully.

Debbie (halfpint66) | 221 comments He's trying but you can still see how he really feels about her.

Natalie Clem | 29 comments I am a huge fan of the show, and I really would like to see Barry and Iris together. I'm glad that Barry finally told Iris how he feels about her. I think Iris is looking at him differently now, and doesn't like seeing him with anyone else. Since Barry seems to have moved on in Iris's eyes, it's making her realize she has feelings for him, that aren't platonic like she thought. BTW...don't like the partner either. He seems too nice...something isn't right with this guy...just can't figure out what.

Debbie (halfpint66) | 221 comments I know someone who was a big super hero comic book fan as a kid. He knows everything. He told me today that Iris IS Barry's girlfriend in the original comic book series. But she doesn't know who he really is.

Melissa Blue (themelissablue) | 66 comments I love this show and I have to say I'm not shipping Barry and Iris. The chemistry isn't there for me. Though I don't like the partner either. lol

I'm waiting for Cisco to get his love interest. I am <3 him. I love geeks, if you can't tell.

message 8: by Pygmy (new)

Pygmy I recently caught up with The Flash, and I love this show!! I love how happy and hopeful everyone is about their superhero-ing, in comparison to say, Arrow.

I love the unrequited love aspect between Barry and Iris; I'm not sure I would buy it if it actually stopped being unrequited. Barry went through a lot to get over Iris, and I think it would be better character development (and less soap opera) if Barry didn't come running back to her once she finally stops being afraid enough to show her true feelings. I also have a sliiight thing against Iris for using Barry so cavalierly-- she doesn't want to date him but she wants all his help and attention while she dates another person? Iris also has a penchant for making lots of speechs that no one in real life would say, lol. Not her fault; she actually pulls it off by saying the speeches ultra cheerfully, but at the same time, it gives me the impression she is willfully not seeing Barry's love for her because she wants to benefit from it with no guilt.

At first I thought her cop boyfriend was just another meathead, but then....I suddenly started liking him! I think it was just me liking the sound of his voice (a really nice rumble!), but later on there was an episode where he coached Barry on boxing/punching, and then I realized that I was pre-judging him just because he superficially looked like a frat boy douchebag. He's actually really cute!

Now Barry is rather comedically/awkwardly dating Iris' Asian coworker. I don't have a good feel for her, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

I actually agree about the lack of Barry/Iris chemistry. Honestly I like her with Eddie better. They are cute. But Iris/Barry are canon.... oh well.

Taida (dreadlockeddiva) | 98 comments Does anyone else feel as if Eddie should have been cast as the Flash? He looks more like the Flash I remember from the movie/Tv show. I am dating myself LOL!

message 11: by Pygmy (new)

Pygmy @Taida: Hmm, I'm not sure! While I knew of the Flash conceptually, I only ever really started watching him with the Young Justice League cartoon that got cancelled after 2 seasons. The Flash there was Wally West while his dad, Barry, looked like Eddie. This made me confused when I saw the live action Flash, since he seemed so much like Wally (being young and twerpy).

But since I hadn't had much exposure to what "should have been", I've acclimated and really like how Barry is portrayed now!

OMG. I love Young Justice. I'm no expert on the cannon though but they were pretty liberal with their version. I think for me it's the actors that don't have chemistry between. Kind of like Arrow and Laurel. I did not ship them at all, on any day. But the moment Felicity came on the screen I was like YES! That! Which is sad because I loved the actress who plays Laurel. Or rather I loved her Ruby character on Supernatural.

message 13: by Pygmy (new)

Pygmy Wow, Laurel was Ruby?? I did not notice that! (goes looks at pictures) Oh, I guess she was, lolol. To be fair, I think I was too busy looking at the bros to notice any females. ^^;;

In Arrow her character is a real pain, plus I can't stop looking at her fake? eyelashes and how awful her fingers look. In Supernatural, she looks much more normal. I definitely like Felicity a lot! So derpy as well, but very fashionable. I probably wouldn't like it if Arrow stopped being an idiot about her though...something about unrequited pining really drags out the tension in a good way, imo. :D

I'm still watching Season 2 of Arrow though, so I don't know how things have developed in Season 3.

In a way, it's kind of nice to not have everything match in lockstop across adaptations? I remember getting so frustrated watching LotR The Two Towers because I had read the book before. It felt like spoiler city, so the only time I really enjoyed the movie was when they deviated from the book and didn't know what was happening. Or I would end up thinking "It was so much better in the book!".

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 335 comments Wow, you miss one week and all hell breaks loose! I just finished the episode on my DVR. I need to read the comments here and 're-watch before I can process all that's going down. :0

★Codie Abibliophobic ★ (phobo55) | 0 comments I just binge watched 16 episodes of The Flash and it's awesome! Can't wait for the new episode, and Arrow after binge watching this too (especially Oliver...he's gorgeous). The Flash and Arrow are such underrated superhero's for DC Comics, although I can't wait for the new Marvel series of Dare Devil.

message 16: by Pygmy (new)

Pygmy omg, episode 16 is out? No spoilers pls!! I'm stuck on work travel and won't be able to see it until next week! From what I saw up until Ep 15, I'm just utterly floored by the complexity of the Dr. Wells character. He's unbelievable! He's got this ultra mild way of talking and acting, but when he does open his mouth, he commands your respect and attention. He inspires so many people to do good things, but then....@_@ and I am floored how someone can be capable of such good and bad at the same time!

I love Dr. Well's interactions with Papa Cop too!! Those two are amazing actors, should just leave them in a room together for the whole episode!

message 17: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Jackson (paperbackdiva) | 335 comments I don't think this is a SPOILER. I just watched the dvr yesterday of last week's show. So I'm not saying what happened but I'm still dealing with the anomaly that apparently the previous week's momentous events didn't actually happen? Or may be this week's events aren't really happening? lol, don't answer, I look forward to trying to figure it out. Crazy!

message 18: by Pygmy (new)

Pygmy hehe, ok. I finally caught up this weekend, so I am free to discuss! All I have to say is, the most impactful scene of ep 15 was the most impactful scene in ep 16!

That and why are the Prison Break actors hamming it up to such a degree? Half the time I want to laugh, the other half I'm wondering why the heck they thought it was a good idea to overact like that. It's so hard to believe them when they keep spouting with an overindulgent Villain Voice.

In the comic books Iris has always been a white female. Fortunately, both Marvel and DC comics are updating formerly white characters to be played by people of color. (The most dramatic of these updates is Samuel L. Jackson, who in my opinion was born to play Nick Fury.)

Times have changed. In an interview years ago Adam West said when Eartha Kitt started playing Catwoman on the old "Batman" TV show in the 1960's the producers insisted that none of the sexual tension between the two characters continue as it had been when Julie Newmar played that villain. (Showing my age on that one, huh?)

I'll check out "The Flash" when it comes out on DVD and I can watch the episodes back to back without commercials.

★Codie Abibliophobic ★ (phobo55) | 0 comments The Flash is just getting better every episode, while Arrow slowly declines lol, but Oliver would make an awesome Rha's. Anyway, I'm so excited about the next episode!

Kelvin Reed (kelvinlreed) | 44 comments I'm not a huge fan of "The Flash" TV show but I have watched it a few times. Did anyone catch that absolutely wonderful song Barry sang to Iris called "Runnin' Home to You"? Here it is in case you missed it.

I did too actually. :D

♡Meme♡Reads love♡ | 116 comments Why are the romance scenes so mediocre? Have you guys notice this? I have notice it with a lot of I/R parings. They just do a lil smooch here and there, she sits on his lap and or they hug it out like buddies. I mean wth is that all about?
But go watch The Aroww hes doing all kinds of hot and heavy make out scenes.

instead we get this

annnnnd he's out like a Flash lol
