Eleonora | 2 comments Hello all,

first of all, thank you for your help.

I am looking for a book I read before year 2000 (I think it was around 1998). I found the book in the school library.

The main charachter was a young girl named Elizabeth that in the middle of the book was somehow trasferred in a maze/labyrinth that was underground. Here she found two companions, that helped her to escape, one of them was a dog or had a dog shaped face, and he was a librarian or an historian.

I also recall that she hated nicknames, and when she introduced herself she said something like "I am Elizabeth, not Lizzie, not Beth... my name is Elizabeth"

Could you please help me to find the title? I would like to have a look at it again.

Thanks,

“Mine’s Elizabeth. Not Beth or Lizzy or Liz or Libby or Liza or Betty or anything else, just Elizabeth. I hate those cute abbreviations. Mothers and fathers just stick you with them without asking you what you think about it, and there they are, yours forever. They’re not real names, just half-names. Elizabeth is a real name. Elizabeth was my great-aunt’s name.”
