YA Fantasy book I read in 2008 and it took place in an Asian inspired world

I think the cover was red or green and there was either a snake or dragon egg on the cover and the egg was important to the plot. One of the girls I think was kidnapped and she had long silky hair. The main character was a boy and I think it was part of a series. I think the characters were middle school age or older.
