I do think they were looking out for her. But Helen couldn't live with such a big lie between her and Rhys.
Edmund didn't care about Helen's feelings. He told her to hurt her, in my opinion. He wanted to strike out at his wife one last time before he died.Lady Berwick is a puzzle. I don't believe she had Helen's best interests in mind as much as her own. I'm still thinking about who Lady Berwick is.
This is the life they know. For them, it’s better for a young woman to be properly married and keep the secret because the alternative life is difficult. I do believe they were giving her the only advice they thought appropriate.
Quincy and Lady Berwick were trying to help. Most men who were looking to marry up in society would not have accepted Helen after learning about her background. Lucky for her, Rhys is not most men.
