I don’t remember much about this book except that the main character discovers that he can mix up brownie batter and sell it uncooked and everyone loves it because it reminds them of their childhood. I read it probably in 4th grade in about 1990. I think about it every time I eat brownie batter and want to read it to my kids!

Losing Joe's Place by Gordon Korman? Queries mention cake batter so may not be it. But the book is from 1990 ...It is a chocolate fudge cake mix.
