"I'm only trying to help..." the man sneered, not looking afraid at all. "I'll even split the random with you. I'll give you more than half, if you let me keep her in my bed until we get the money- if you catch my drift."

Cai took a step and slapped the man, hard. " I don't want your filthy money, you disgusting beast," He spat. "You will have to outsmart me before you get to this girl, and she will die if I don't get her warm. Leave now," Cai commanded. There was no way he would let this man get to the girl, not if he had anything to do with it. He could take one man, easy.
The man growled and slunk away, knowing he wouldn't get away with anything now. Anira was growing even more pale, even with the jacket on. Her breaths were barely there, only visible not her in chest but in the air.
Cai turned around in a hurry, picking up the girl and running towards his home. He wasn't too far now. Normally he would have killed that man, but he didn't have time - she will not die. He ran into his home, down the stairs and into the room she was staying in. He put her in the bed, pulling up the blankets around her. He sat in bed next to her, careful not to touch her. He was colder than she was, he knew, and he did not want to make her any worse off than she was.
((Crap, I thought I had responded. >~<))Anira lay as still as a statue for a large portion of time, as cold as one too. However, after hours, the color in her cheeks began to return, if but barely. She wasn't freezing anymore, but still shivered, curling into a tight ball under the blankets.
((Its okay, I just want to know if you ever quit lol))Cai struggled with himself, wanting to touch her and keep her safe and warm, but he knew he couldn't. "Why do I feel this way? She hates me. She wishes I was dead. She probably would have been happier with that fucking rapist." he thought. He absently held a piece of her hair in his fingers, then leaned in to breath in her scent. Despite being here for so many days, she still smelled like lemon. It occurred to him that he hadn't let her take a shower or bath or anything. He decided that when she was well he would go and buy things humans need, if she was cooperating, that is.
It was almost a whole day before Anira woke, groaning in pain. Her eyes slid open, and all she could see was the grungy ceiling of her prison. A strangled noise escaped her throat as she remembered trying to escape, and seeing the village just a few more steps away... And then darkness. She couldn't remember any more than that, except for a chilling agony. Groaning in pain, she tried to sit up, her head swimming.
Cai had been sitting next to her for the whole 24 hours, growing weak. He usually didn't go this long without drinking. His head shot up when he saw the girl sit up. "You're awake," he sighed with relief. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?" he asked, frantically.
Anira made another noise, this time of fear, as she whirled to face the vampire. Something was on the tip of her tongue, an apology mixed with an insult, until she saw the look on his face. Was that... Concern? Worry? Anira breathed shakily, just staring at the vampire.
"Do you need anything?" he asked finally. He didn't want to let down his fierce persona, but he didn't have the strength nor willpower to do so.
Anira remained silent for a few moments longer before whispering, "I'm sorry..." Then breaking into tears. She had finally been broken, though heaven knows how.
Cai was astonished. She was crying, and it wasn't his fault. At least, not because he was mean to her. He touched her shoulder, wanting to do more but not knowing if he should. "Do you remember what happened?" he asked her softly.
Anira didn't even tense at his touch, too lost in the fact that there was concern within the vampire, and that he hadn't killed her. She nodded and choked out another apology, shaking and shivering.
Cai stood and got water from the kitchen, and brought it back to her. "Drink this, you might feel better," he said. Even though he knew now wasn't the time, he couldn't help looking at her neck, sensing her blood coursing through her. He was weak, but he knew that he couldn't drink her blood. Not now.
Anira drank it without complaint, finding herself extremely thirsty. She coughed slightly, trying to control her sobs, not looking at the vampire. She didn't even know his name...
Cai stroked her cheek with his cold hand, wiping away her tears. "It's okay" he murmured. "You're going to be okay." He wish he could have told her he wouldn't do anything to hurt her, but that would probably have been a lie.
Anira leaned into his cold hand, needing some sort of reassurance. She was still shaking, finally broken and beaten. It was obvious she wouldn't be snapping at the vampire any time soon.
Cai didn't move his hand, unsure what to do. He liked her...affection. He knew he shouldn't, but he did, and there was nothing to be done. He sat down next to her on the bed again, taking the glass of water from her hand. He stroked her hair, feeling the softness in his fingers again. He had grown to love that feeling in the short time they had been together.
Anira didn't seem to react at all, mumbling things in Icelandic and sobbing. She was fully conscious of everything, however, and just wanted to curl into a ball and die. The vampire was now being so kind, confusing her...
Cai watched her cry, listening to her strange words - trying to discern them. He wished he knew what she was saying. "Do you need anything? Do you want me to leave?" he asked quietly.
Anira quickly shook her head, not wanting to be alone... Even if the only company was her captor. She kept mumbling, the words quiet and loud and angered and joyous. She seemed to be going a bit crazy.
Cai, not knowing what else to do, pulled the girl into her lap. He leaned again the backboard of the bed, holding her in his arms. He needed her to calm down, but if she resisted him he wouldn't stop her either. He knew he was overstepping his boundaries. Cai pulled the blanket over her, wrapping her up to keep her warm against his cool skin. "When I was young," he said, despite her speaking "I got very mad at my mother. Granted my mother is a vampire, and they aren't the nicest beings , as you can see, but this was different from normal. I got really mad. I ran away. I don't know what I was thinking. Like I said, my mother was a vampire. There was no way I'd get away... anyway, I ran away and got about 3 blocks down the street before I decided I was lost and sat on the corner and cried. Yes, me, the horrible awful vampire monster man, cried on the corner 3 blocks from his own house." Cai chuckled. "It took about 20 minutes before I walked back, and my mother beat the living shit out of me. Or non-living, whatever you prefer."Cai looked down at the girl, hoping to had calmed her down with his story. It was short, but he didn't have many good, funny stories anyway.
Anira had stopped mumbling once the vampire had begun to talk, just sitting in his lap silently. She still shivered and shook with the cold and her sobs, her head hanging and tears dripping down her face. Once the vampire fell silent again, she waited for him to say something else, like he was now going to beat her...
Cai stroked the girls hair, astonished that she had not run away. He could feel her shaking from being cold, and her tears were soaking through his shirt. He could sense her pulse against him, making his mouth water and him feel weaker than before.
Anira finally spoke, and in a language he could understand. "Why?" She whispered, her voice shaking and breaking. "Why are you being so kind?"
Cai looked down at her "I don't know," he whispered. He leaned his head back, resting it against the bed frame and closed his eyes. He wondered if he would have to go back to being the mean person he was when the girl first got here. "By the way," he said, eyes still closed "what is your name?"
"A-Anira..." She whispered, her voice catching in her throat. A soft whimper escaped her mouth as she sat in his lap, barely feeling his fingers in her hair.
"Anira..." he said, testing it out. He looked down again when she whimpered and removed his hands. "You don't have to stay sitting here, you can move. I was just trying to get you to calm down but..." he shrugged, trying to act impartial.
Anira shook her head again, not wanting to move, honestly just wanting to die. She sniffled, her eyes suddenly flicking up to meet his. She noticed his severely pale skin and hungering eyes, realizing he hadn't eaten lately.
Cai looked away when she looked at him. He didn't wanted her to look at him the way he was. When she was better - or sleeping - he had decided he would go out and get someone to drink from. Not to keep, just to kill. He needed blood. Badly.
"You're hungry..." Anira whispered, hardly believing the words she had brought to her own lips. She truly had been broken, she realized as she pushed the hair from her neck.
Cai was silent, not making eye contact. She didn't expect him to figure it out, to know what that would look like. Hearing her say it made him more sensitive to his hunger. He felt it in his throat, the scratching, itching sensation. He swallowed dryly. He needed to get away before he hurt her.
Her voice broke into a sob as she spoke again, not going to move. If anything, she felt more grounded than ever, shifting closer to the vampire with her neck bared. "You need to drink..."
Cai pushed her away "No, I can't. You are too weak, and I am too thirsty. I might not stop..." he said, looking away from her. He couldn't bear to see her neck, her so willing to give her blood to him. She hates him, she shouldn't want to give him her blood.
"I don't care," Anira argued weakly, finding that to be true. She didn't care whether she lived or died, but if she died, at least it was to keep someone else alive.
"No, Anira." he said. "You can't. I will find someone else...until you become strong" he whispered the last part. He regretted it, but it was the truth.
His last words didn't even phase Anira. "You're too weak to go find someone now. Just take a little, even if it's just a small amount, you need to..." Anira couldn't believe she was arguing for him to take her blood- what had happened to her?!
"I can't do that. You are much much too weak. I'll be fine." he said. There was no way he could drink from her. He was too thirsty, and if he drank from her she would probably die.
Cai pushed her away, standing up. "No, I can't. You are weak, not just cold. You might die." he murmured.
"You hate me. Why are you doing this?!" he yelled. He knew he didn't have a reason to be angry, but he was. She shouldn't be so nice to him. She should be hating him, kicking, scratching, just trying to hurt him. Instead, she was offering herself. She couldn't die, he wouldn't let her. He needed her, for her blood but also her company. He hadn't realized how lonely he had been.
"Because I don't want to survive..." She whispered, her voice breaking. "I'm not worth anything anymore and if don't care if I live or die!
Cai stared at her, and then nodded. "The reason I brought you here is to drink, but not kill you. I'm not about to change that." Whether she wanted to live or not, he wasn't going to kill her.
"Well you need to drink." She kept arguing, standing and stumbling towards him after laying down for so long.
"I told you, I'm fine," he said, putting his remaining power and force into his voice. He pushed her lightly back onto the bed. "I'll be fine. You need to just get better."
