i cant tell if im just crazy bc ive scoured the internet searching for this book and found absolutely nothing. i must have read this book around 2010 from my school library but it was definitely published before that. i vividly remember the title being “colony” but i cant seem to find my book in the search. the cover of the version i read had colony written in bold text and just the eyes of a person, as well as some ants i believe. i think there were two or three parallel storylines with one set in the past. one of the characters from the past was referred to as “the notorious ___”; ive forgotten what the last bit of his name was but there were initials involved and it might’ve been something like boone, it sounded quite ridiculous. he was a serial killer. he is dead in the present storyline and has a daughter by the name of apathy amazon. in another storyline there were some intelligence agents i believe who were conducting a social experiment on children on an isolated island which i think is how the book got its name.

as i’ve mentioned i’ve already searched titles with the word “colony” in them but none of them are correct, if you believe you know the book would you happen to also know the name of the author so i might narrow down my search?
