Emberpaw stepped closer to Owlwhisper, "Falconswoop chose a good deputy."

Emberpaw heard them and smiled to herself.

[Zoe]

Lionkit nodded excitedly, "Maybe he'll make us all apprentices soon!"

Duskkit nodded in agreement, "Well all be the best warriors the clan has ever seen!"

[Zoe]

Lionkit got up, "What games can you play with your hurt leg?" he asked.

"Yeah, momma said we have to be careful" Duskkit added

Emberpaw looked down on them and thought about Starclan. They would decide the future for them all, yet only medicine cats could see them. Why? she wondered.

[Zoe]

Lionkit bounced excitedly, "Ok but we have to hurry! Or Suntails gonna catch us!"

[Zoe]

Lionkit nodded seriously and crouched down and started crawling out of the nursery.

Duskkit waited a moment, "I'll go after you, so you don't get left behind" he told Dovekit

"Of course! I remember all of my herbs," Emberpaw promised the she-cat.

Emberpaw dropped her smile when Owlwhisper turned away. This would be hard, and Emberpaw was really scared. Yet she put on a brave face for Owlwhisper.
((I'm going to dinner, have to go!))

"Bye, Owlwhisper!" Emberpaw called from behind her.

[Zoe]

((oh noes, is Duskkit gonna have to pass with just Emberpaw??))

Duskkit brought up the rear of the small party of kits as they snuck out of camp.

Once they had successfully made it outside Lionkit pause to look around, "Uh guys? does anyone know how to get to the stream?" he asked

[Zoe]

Lionkit nodded and started wandering in one direction listening for the sound of water, "Do you hear anything?" he asked

[Zoe]

((Duskkit is going to die soon, has to happen before they reach apprentice age.. Maybe someone has to come find them and he's not doing well?))

Lionkit nodded and took off in the direction of the water, running as fast as his legs would carry him.

Duskkit followed more slowly, trying to not leave Dovekit behind, but he was super excited as well and after a moment began to run after Lionkit.

The pair reached the stream and Lionkit stopped to admire it, his eyes wide with wonder.

Duskkit skidded to a halt and let out a few deep coughs, he shook himself off and looked behind him, "Dovekit?" he called

[Zoe]

((Good idea))

Duskkit flicked his tail excitedly, "I bet I can catch a fish faster than you!" he told Lionkit as he padded into the shallowest part of the stream.

Lionkit laughed, "No way!" he went out a little farther, a little unsteady in the moving water but managed to keep his balance. Lionkit glanced back at Dovekit, "Dovekit thinks I'll catch one faster!"

Duskkit looked back in shock, "What? No she doesn't, she thinks I will!"

[Zoe]

"Shhhhhhh" Lionkit shushed them rather loudly, "Look!" he pointed his tail to a shadow in the water a few fox-lengths away. It was getting closer though and he was pretty sure it was a fish.

Duskkit spotted it as well, but it was much closer to Lionkit as he was deeper in the stream. He started to walk closer just as Lionkit decided to pounce at it

Lionkit didn't get anywhere close to the fish and his pounce caused him to lose his balance in the moving water. He struggled to stay above the water for a moment and ended up colliding with Duskkit and knocking him off his feet as well. Lionkit found his footing in time to see Duskkit go under the water, "Duskkit!" he screeched as he jumped after him.

[Zoe]

The two kits made it to the shore where Dovekit was waiting, although they struggled to make it. Duskkit was coughing again, but this was the worst fit yet. He could barely breathe in between the long, deep coughs.

"Duskkit are you ok?" Lionkit asked, concern etched all over his face. The young kit was struggling to be ok so soon after the floods and now almost drowning again.

Duskkit was unable to get any words out as he lay on the shore coughing, now with each new cough water was starting to come up from his lungs.

Lionkit looked to Dovekit helplessly crying, "What do we do?!"

[Zoe]

Lionkit nodded, thankful for his sisters levelheadedness. He spun around and sprinted back the way they had come, bursting into camp shortly after. "Help!" he cried out

Suntails attention was immediately drawn to the desperate scream of her kit and she bounded over, "What happened? What's wrong?" she demanded

Lionkit pushed himself into his mothers long fur, crying. "Duskkit, we-we were at the stream. A-and we fell in and he cant b-br-breathe!!!!"

Suntail's alarm rose with each word he spoke "Emberpaw!" she cried out. She wished Owlwhisper was here but she knew she had trained the apprentice well and trusted her as well, "Emberpaw, come quickly! Duskkit almost drowned at the stream!" she cried.

Blackthorn rushed over to his sister, "Go, find the kits, I'll find Emberpaw" he told her as he guided Lionkit with his tail back to the medicine den. "Emberpaw?" he called

Suntail dashed out of the camp, and ran to the stream where she found Duskkit coughing, and gasping for air, and burning to the touch. Clearly running a fever. "What happened?" she asked Dovekit as she tried to figure out what she could do to help her kit

Flamefeather heard what happened and immediately rushed out of camp to be with Duskkit. He saw Duskkit, alive but barely breathing. "Duskkit, what happened?" he asked.

Rosewing rushed to be with Duskkit as well. "Duskkit, are you okay?" she asked.

[Zoe]

Duskkit had managed to stop breathing, but now he lay pressed against his mother taking rasping breaths and shivering.

Suntail didnt seem to notice her clanmates presence as she ran her tail along Duskkit small back and licked his head worriedly before looking to the sky. "Please don't take another one" she pleaded with Starclan. "I don't think I can survive another of my kits joining you in the sky" she looked back to Duskkit who let out a few more coughs, "Shhhh I'm here" she soothed.

Duskkit wasn't quite sure what was happening, but he felt like he was trying to breathe water. He could see and smell his mother, but that was only slightly comforting to him as he tried to find air

Suntail was too overwhelmed with Duskkits failing breathes to realize she still had a kit to comfort with her. She continued to send up silent prayers to Starclan, begging them to save her kit. She watched helplessly as Duskkits breathes became shallower and quicker

Blackthorn spotted Finchheart at the entrance to the camp, and guided Lionkit over to him, "You haven't seen Emberpaw anywhere have you?" he asked the elder

[Zoe]

"Owlwhisper is at the Moon Pool with Falconswoop. One of Suntail's kits fell into the stream and almost drowned" Blackthorn told him

I think we need to wait for Ava or for Owlwhisper to get back.....))

Suntail picked up Duskkit gently and nudged Dovekit forward with her tail, heading back to camp. Emberpaw was taking too long so she would take him to her,

Blackthorn, who had left camp to share FInchheart's advice, met her halfway and gently picked up Mintkit and they arrived back at camp quickly.

Suntail set Duskkit down, "It's alright, you're going to be ok" she soothed, running her tail along his small body

[Zoe]

Suntail took a step back from Duskkit to let Owlwhisper work, "Please" she begged, "Save him. I can't lose another kit" Suntail begged the medicine cat.

Duskkit regained consciousness and started to cough up water, but he continued coughing even when there was no more water to cough up. His tongue started turning purple form the lack of oxygen and Suntail let out a cry.

Lionkit pressed against Dovekit for comfort. "Is he gonna be ok?" he asked whoever was listening

[Zoe]

Duskkit kept taking in shaky breaths for a few more moments before he took in one last, deep breath and fell still.

Suntails cry could be heard throughout the camp as she threw herself at the kit, licking his fur trying to get him to breath again

[Zoe]

Lionkit heard his mother's cry and crouched low to the ground, "I don't think Duskkit is ok" he whispered

Suntail gave up licking at the medicine cats words and shook her head, "It's not your fault, I'd seen him coughing and didn't do anything about it. I'm a terrible mother, it's my fault he's dead" she muttered as she curled around his tiny body, wishing that by some miracle he would wake and tell her he was alright

[Zoe]

Suntail looked up at the elder, eyes filled with grief, "That he's gone to StarClan to join his father and littermates" she whispered, "I don't know what else I can tell them"

"Owlwhisper?" Emberpaw said. She was crying. "This is all my fault, isn't it?"

((Yeah... ARGGH poor Duskkit))
"I guess," Emberpaw said, grateful for Owlwhisper. She wouldn't know what to do without her. She trembled. Duskkit was gone. Emberpaw couldn't believe it.

"Okay," Emberpaw said, taking a peek. She saw a few kits, but she quickly guided them towards their mothers and their dens.

"Sure," Emberpaw said. "What herbs do you use to prepare a body?"

Emberpaw grabbed them in her mouth and followed Owlwhisper outside.

Emberpaw nodded sadly. She knew Duskkit and he didn't deserve to die. If only she'd been there...

"I'm sorry too, Owlwhisper. When they needed me, I wasn't there. I failed you," Emberpaw said. She blinked away some tears.

"Thanks, Owlwhisper," Emberpaw mumbled. She was grateful that she wasn't the medicine cat yet.

[[deleted user]]

"Okay, Owlwhisper," she mumbled. She went to her den, with one last look at the body. She said goodbye to Duskkit, wished him well in his journey to Starclan, and finally left. Once in her den, she curled up, exhausted, and fell asleep.

Emberpaw snored softly. She was dreaming. She saw three other cats, her age. Emberpaw was walking, then abruptly the dream ended.

"Yeah. I just had a dream. I think it was from Starclan," she said. It had the same feeling as it usually did when Starclan sent her messages. A silvery cold, warm and comforting at the same time.

Emberpaw swallowed the paste. ((What is the paste supposed to do?)) She started to tell Owlwhisper the dream.

"Uh, not really... I was walking somewhere with them..." Emberpaw said.

"Who's Flickerfoot?" Emberpaw said, taking a rabbit and gnawing at it. She was a bit worried about the dream. It could have been a prophecy... And if so, it meant that she played a major part in it.

"Okay then," Emberpaw said. She yawned. All this excitement had made her tired. She dragged herself to her den and fell asleep. She hoped that she could continue the dream.

“They’re doing great but I feal so sorry for Duskkit, he didn’t deserve to leave so soon.”, Chrystaleyes said sadly.


“Yeah, we’re doing great and I’m gonna be a warrior!”, skykit said courageous.

“And we’re all very strong and mighty!”, Lavenderkit meowed.

“But I don’t wanna be a warrior!”, Flowerkit meowed back.
