I have been exhausted the last two weeks. I've been picking overtime for someone who is out for 4-6 weeks and it's crazy how exhausting an extra 1.5 hours a day can be. I'm in the middle of three books but haven't been making super great progress on them - hoping to catch up a little on the weekend!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I've fortunately been in a big reading mood lately so that helps, but I know what you mean on work being busy. Most of my reading has to be reserved for evenings and weekends.

Back from my leadership summit. My current read is Because He’s Jeff Goldblum. So far they’ve mentioned electric guitar and piano. Fish butter coconut and spinach

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Hey Team - I'm playing around with the mini for a bit this afternoon, just an FYI that I pulled some books from some challenge shelves that hadn't been entered into the spreadsheet yet. I wanted to get the most room to play that I could!

So if you're checking in and putting a backlog of books on the spreadsheet, double check that I didn't already grab them. :)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments BIG UPDATE!

I just went through all the books we've read since the Inspiration mini started and have assigned them all to a spot in the mini!

I moved some things around within a task to get the books we've read at the top of each section just to make it a little easier to visually see what we still need. Your specific number of a task within a Muse might have changed, but I didn't remove anyone's claimed books. Don't worry about changing it on the spreadsheet - we'll figure it out, but just a heads up!

Here's what we need in each muse:

Thalia (Comedy) and Melpomene (Tragedy) - 28 Open Books

I put some titles in these and started making some sentences but they're totally up for more creative input. We could use books to make settings for both/either - or if anyone wants to take a stab at a before/after sentence to continue, I think these are going to be the weirdest ones to finish. LOL

Urania (Series) - 5 Open Books

We currently have two chains, 1-6 and 1-5, we could continue these both into higher numbers OR plan another 1-4 chain and then have our fifth book open for either a 5, 6, or 7 in a series book.

Claimed Books:
Stacey: The Book Woman's Daughter, Dead Moon
Vicky: The Shadow Rising, The Fires of Heaven

Polyhymnia (Squares) - All Claimed

Claimed Books:
Jax: Year of Magical Thinking, In the Great Green Room
Louise: Empire of Storms

Erato (Pairs) - All Claimed

Claimed Books:
Erin: Still Life with Crows, The Cuckoo's Calling, Crime Scene
Kerri: My Heart is a Chainsaw

Calliope (Read By a Team Member) - 8 Open Books

Claimed Books:
Erin: Pieces of Her, Crime and Poetry
Jax: The Love Song of WEB Dubois
Kerri: Hide
Louise: The Red Pyramid

Clio (TBR 1+ Year) - 6 Open Books

Note on this that it doesn't necessarily have to be on your GR TBR, as long as somewhere in your brain it's been on your TBR for a year it counts. :)

Claimed Books:
Jax: The Gulag Archipelago
Kerri: The Neverending Story

Euterpe (Concert) - 3 Open Lyrics/Poems

Claimed Books:
Erin: In the Woods, Dead Men's Boots
Jax: I Was Better Last Night

Terpsichore (Ball) - 9 Open Outfits, 5 Open Food/Drink Items, 4 Open Settings

Claimed Books:
Erin: Super Powereds
Vicky: Ironskin

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I finished Pieces of Her and updated for Calliope. Just have one left claimed in that area. Claiming and finding where books fit are part of the fun. I'm going to focus on Still Life with Crows today for my next read.

Pieces of her was enjoyable. I had read Karin Slaughter before but she can be inconsistent for me. I have plenty of other books of hers on my bookshelves to get to someday.

Still Life with Crows will be a re-read and I will see what other Pendergast books I Have time to get to - they have large page counts and are good books, but I also want to knock out some other large page books so we'll see.

15 days left!!

This is definitely my favorite mini challenge so far with the categories. Thanks for the big update, Vicky

Hope all are having a nice weekend and getting some good books in.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments It looks like my copy of Malibu Rising came in from the library much earlier than anticipated.

message 1318: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I finally finished If Women Rose Rooted: The Power of the Celtic Woman which has been on my shelf over a year (2019) and contains many snippets of poetry

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I stayed up late reading Still Life with Crows and finished it. Will update soon.

Happy Monday and August 1st, all!

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Hey Team!! Sorry I have been MIA. It has been super crazy here.

On July 22 my youngest grandson was admitted into the hospital when swimmer's ear turned into mastoiditis. The two granddaughters were recovering from Covid. By the middle of the week, my son and daughter in law caught Covid.

Now that all the kids of have gone home and my life should be returning to normal, I think I may have Covid. I am congested and have lost the sense of smell and taste :(

I have gotten little to no reading done between dog/house sitting, taking care of the sick and watching kids. Maybe I can rest and read a little bit.

Hope all is well with all of you : )

Trinia | 2503 comments Hey there all!
I've been working on some longer books finishing White Teeth by Zadie Smith and The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo at around 500 pgs each.
Finally have 2 of my boys home from college and we are off to Florida this week to vacation and visit family. Hoping to get some beach reading in.
I'll be joining in with the Book Lovers by Emily Henry read and discussion when I can.

I'm a bit overwhelmed with the mini's so please use my books however will help the team the most.

Stay cool... still in the 100's here in Texas :(

message 1324: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments Robin, that is rough! I hope you recover quickly.

My husband got COVID and gave it to me. Luckily we are both ok, but he got meds and recovered more quickly. I'm still trying to work from home. Bonus is that I have gotten a lot of reading in.

100s - wow! Glad it isn't that high here. Still warm, but its actually cooled down. We will hit 90s later again this week.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Happy Friday - we're about to start our last full week!

I have been reading a lot this week, will mark more complete very soon, and plan on a full reading weekend and week. Thankfully into some very good books, so that helps.

I am almost done with Malibu Rising BOM since that came in library this week, but Book Lovers has a long waitlist at all my libraries, so have a feeling won't be able to join in for that one.

message 1328: by [deleted user] (new)

I ended up using an audible credit to get Book Lovers, and I loved the book so I'm so glad I did! It was totally worth it.

I've been sick all week so trying to get some reading in, in between the bouts of dizziness. I managed to get through Book Lovers and working on Brooklyn now. I have a massive stack of library books to get through so will see what I can achieve before the end of the challenge.

UGH!! My mom thought she was getting sick but after taking Metamucil and allergy meds, and some alibiotics, she feels fine today so must be allergies. So many people are getting sick though - I hope you feel better soon

I HATE Dizziness

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments And, now clocked out from work for the weekend - woohoo!

Only had to work 4 hours and 25 minutes today so read for awhile on Brimstone before clocking in, then did audio of Swan Song while working. Have the paperback to read also but the audio isn't bad and will be a mixed format book for me.

message 1331: by [deleted user] (new)

Dizziness is the worst, so incapacitating.

Glad to hear it turned out to be allergies for your mom though, being sick is rough.

Tati | 1350 comments it took me forever, but I finally finished a book, will add it to the general tab, as I'm a bit lost with this new mini challenge

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I finished Brimstone, now I'm going to focus on finishing some of the smaller books I'm working on.

message 1334: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I finished The Shadow Rising and Rogue Princess the last few days - hopefully going to listen to The Poet X today and maybe start Gunslinger?

message 1335: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments Vicky, let me know what you thought of Poet X, it looks really interesting.

I've finished Book Lovers and the Bookwoman's Daughter. I'm trying to fit in Malibu Rising, but I may not get there as I have a few others in the mix.

message 1336: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Happy Saturday everyone a little over a week to go. Trying desperately to finish up some of my larger books .

Planned reads for this week
Malibu Rising
Book Lovers
The Red Pyramid
Empire of Storms

message 1337: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Brooklyn and that was...not what I expected to say the least. It's been on my TBR since 2014 and just was not at all worth the wait. I could not stand the character and found the story and ending dissatisfying. But I guess still good to get an older one off my TBR. Trying to figure out what to read next, I have too many options available!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Sorry it was a disappointment, Kelsi.

I read some of the Cuckoo's Calling and like it so far. Trying to find the second Dark Tower novel but cannot locate the stupid thing.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments So, great news!

I realized I did not own The Drawing of the three but own the rest of the series. All Libraries I'm part of have it on long hold, and I am not interested in the long audio.

Since I have a $10 gift card, I decided to just buy a paperback copy and have it here by Monday for prime. When adding it there, found out it was part of a 5.00 off deal if you spend 20 --- and there was Book Lovers the BOM I also can't find :) So with the 10.00 gift card and the five off for buying two, I spent 9.00 on both books total and will be here Monday. Love when things work out that way.

message 1341: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I'm going to sit down tomorrow and do another big update, this weekend has been kind of crazy trying to get some projects done around the house!

Depending on what we have going on, I might shuffle some things around to complete some categories that we're close to completing so we can get the point bonus from that. We'll see!

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Hi all!!!

Thank you all for the well wishes : ) I have not really been feeling myself this past week. Nothing appeals to me and I've had a big case of the BLAHs. I have been reading but nothing has been a "good" read...I'm thinking it's just my mood as these are books I really wanted to read. I will be adding my books to the SS as soon as I post this. Feel free to place them where they are needed. It's hard to believe we are already in the last week.

I hope all of you have had a fantastic weekend and have an even better week.

I hope you like The Poet X. I read it a couple of years ago and it was an absolute train wreck for me : ( Very important topics/issues but I hated the execution. I was highly disappointed as books written in verse are my all time faves.

I will be interested to see what you think : )

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I will have Swan Song finished around mid week. Finished some books and will update, have some fun reading planned this week. My book club meets Tuesday to discuss Later, which I will have done by Tuesday also.

Now keep in mind I'm not a writer LOL but with the books you had and the ones I just added to the main book tracking SS here is what I came up with. I'm not even sure that I used the exact(correct editions of the titles)

Last night, I decided to take a walk downtown to see The Fountains of Silence. The water was dancing to the shimmering lights like The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women. Much to my despair I was taken out of The Quiet Zone: Unraveling the Mystery of a Town Suspended in Silence when I heard a ruckus coming from the movie theatre. Turning the corner I ran straight into Caprice and knocked her flat on her badorkas. "OUCH!!! What in the blue blazes are you doing?", she screamed. "Oh my stars," I exclaimed. "I'm just trying to see what all the commotion is about." "It's just Alice and the Mere Mortals having a jam session on Main Street," she replied. "Why do old nosy fuddy duddies, like you, enjoy ruining The Most Fun We Ever Had. " Excuse me young lady but you're The One that needs an attitude adjustment. Being Witch Slapped may be the dose of medicine you need," I replied. "HMPH! It would be a cold day in,well, you know. Therefore, I'll just say welcome to Our Little World you old hag. Remember, Livvie Owen Lived Here and she'll be back to haunt you,"she snickered. What? Why is this ungrateful brat bringing up my horrifying past? I really wanted to giver her a piece of my mind but decided It Sounded Better in My Head I couldn't risk giving her the pleasure of digging out The Skeleton in the Closet and telling the whole world that I Kissed Shara Wheeler. What an embarrassment that would be. Shedding The Light in Hidden Places would definitely be the death of me. I would be forced to give my Last Wool and Testament. I picked up The Screwtape Letters that I was carrying and started walking away while humming The Ballad of Frankie Silver. Upon reflection of this incidence, I realized that these young teeny boppers carry a lot jealousy that they aren't official members of the "blue haired gang" aka the Golden Boys. But it's all good. I just need to let her learn the lesson that life doesn't Stay Gold.

Louise | 3331 comments Happy Monday everyone. Had a slow reading weekend, mum was taken into hospital on Saturday morning, spent the weekend trying to get hold of the hospital to find out why she was admitted. Mum lives in an enhanced care facility 4 hours away from me and 2 hours away from my brother. Finally got hold of nursing staff yesterday who advised she’s under the surgical team and we would be able to know more today.

We are entering our second heatwave of the summer with temperatures expected to reach 86°F by the end of the week.

Started Malibu Rising which I’m enjoying and am still reading The Red Pyramid, love a Rick Riordan novel. Both are slow going as they are physical books but the rest of my reads are going to be on audio.

@Robin love the story we will probably need to pull these 3 from it to add to other sections:
The Book of Cold Cases - works for Calliope
The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women - works for Clio
The Light in Hidden Places - Clio
