Tati | 1350 comments also, if we need a farmer book, Bet The Farm is not a bad read and it's on KU.

Thanks Louise! Surprisingly I don't feel too bad today, but definitely happy to have a day to just relax and read 📚.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I finally got to read last night and finished Ghouls Gone Wild - that monster is done

I then slept super late! Will read more this weekend, but right now watching The Boys newest episode and drinking first cup of coffee for day

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments @Stacey - I would say for the mini we should claim one per person at the beginning of the round, to make sure everyone has had a chance to hop on and contribute if they want. By Tuesday we can start filling in the rest of our spots if others haven't chimed in. We (as in the Captain's) might rearrange banked books between us and the supergroup for the final submit of the week and we can always add from the bank to get to our team's 5 book, so there's definitely nothing wrong with reading two and we'll figure out where best to use it as the week progresses! We do want to keep talk of any genres or numbers of books/per genre to the supergroup and away from prying Aegean eyes though!

@Tati - I'll let someone else chime in for sure, but I'm pretty sure a non-fiction setting is still a setting!

Jen Sabo | 547 comments We decided the Sirens. Our new monster is...

Python

Python has been seen on your lands, searching for Apollo and Artemis. He's not that hard to kill as Greek monsters go being just a really big snake, may be interested in ladies with buns. Be warned though, his death may require a penance be paid to satisfy Zeus.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 100 and 125 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that features twins.
3. Read a book whose author name (first or last) starts with a letter in SWORD.
4.) Read a book where a character is pregnant.
5.) Read a book that mentions some type of championship games (World Cup, Olympics, World Series, etc)

We need readers for warships. Also with regards to non-fiction a setting is still a setting.

Head on over to the supergroup Mythics . Books used need to have started after the warship challenge began, 9pm Uk Time on Friday 1st. To ensure our strategy remains under wraps all discussion regarding genres will take place over there

Ugh hope you feel better soon! It is really going around.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I just added several books I plan to get to this month to the planning spreadsheet and what they fit for with monsters and genre --- ones that don't list Genre only qualify for the monsters part of the challenge and not both (meaning I've already started them usually)

My son came home in a bad mood very early from work so not sure what happened there yet 0_0

I started Zeus yesterday and it's actually very cute, so don't think it will take much longer. Put on the monsters planning tab.

message 1071: by Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (last edited Jul 03, 2022 01:20PM) (new)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Marked Zeus as complete. Cute book.

Since we get five per book and 15 per finished monster, that is 30 points each time we finish a monster - just figured out (I'm slow and late with figuring out the points lol). Happily we still have till the 15th so here's hoping we can knock some more out of the ballpark.

I do like having two mini options at once to keep the variety fun too. I find the mini game too confusing but can read genres for it and feel free to use books to fit in the right place. At least the genres are easy to figure out and fun to sort by, so me not fully getting it shouldn't be an issue with me participating since I'll still be contributing books for it

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I did another Thriftbooks order, and a new headphone order and mini retro radio for a porch speaker. I need to stop spending money now 0_0

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Happy Sunday!!!

The grandkids have gone home so I have a few days to relax, read and catch up before the 2 boys come back.

I have spent some time reading and rereading the battleship rules and I am completely lost. Nothing is making sense to me about how it works : ( To overwhelming. I went to the Mythics group in hopes of getting more clarity and understanding but I'm even more confused now. I think I'm going to stay out of that and just focus on killing monsters(much easier)

I will be working on updating the spreadsheet of what I have read today. Hopefully I will have read something that will work on the monsters.

@Erin Murphy says thanks for the well wishes : ) Yummy dinner!! I think I need to come to your house to eat LOL

@Louise thanks!! I was getting a little stressed about Murphy. He was having the same symptoms as my other furbaby,Saturn, had right before she passed away in 2020. So thankful he is doing better. Oh no, it's really annoying to read a book and then realize it doesn't work. Hopefully it could be used elsewhere : )

@Kelsi Happy Belated Canada Day!!! Hope you had a great time celebrating and enjoying the day off from work.

@Jax OH NO so sorry...BOO on Covid. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Well it's 1:00 am here so Happy 4th of July to all US players : ) I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday. It's been so hot and dry here that a lot of counties/cities have banned fireworks. A few professional shows have taken place but not many.

I finally got my books updated on the spread sheet. With all the real life activities this month my reading has slowed down a bit. I still have a few books on the go that I hope to have finished this week. I probably just jinxed myself by saying that LOL

@Kelsi you are more than welcome : )

Caucasian Eagle

The Caucasian Eagle has taken to the skies over your lands in the search of do-gooders who don't think the rules apply to them. Not so hard to defeat with a little effort and maybe setting some traps with organ meat.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 200 and 299 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book set in Russia.
3.) Read a book with a bird on the cover.
4.) Read a book with the letters LIVER in title (any order)
5.) Read a book where a character goes to prison/jail (or is already there).

message 1085: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments WOAH they changed out the monsters on the wheel! I've been at my parents this weekend helping my mom make new drapes for her living room, and we've still got a few panels to make. I can update the spreadsheet to add the new monsters later this afternoon.

Keep in mind that any of the new monsters won't have info on our spreadsheet, so if you've read a book that works for any of the Caucasian Eagle tasks, please let us know!

message 1086: by Annalisa (new)

The Invention of Wings has a bird on the cover and it looks like we have a couple of books that would fit the other two.

I like these non Zeus sheep monsters.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Yay on few new monsters - hopefully that helps with the repetitiveness and breathes some more life back into this mini.

I added a musical cover one just now that won't take me long to finish as that was left unclaimed for a monster for a bit. It's a very cute series - this last one I had read so quickly in Oct 2021 for another challenge that I'd like to revisit it.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments

I hope all in the US have a great 4th of July day today

Stranger Things has got me in the mood to rewatch some of the Nightmare on Elm Street series and of course for 4th of July there's always Jaws..... It's a relaxing day. Going to parents at 4 to eat with family but not in a big social mood today!

Going to get some reading in between TV, food, and just relaxing before back to work tomorrow.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Looks like three monsters have been removed
Mares of Diomedes
Minotaur
Harpies

We only had Harpies and Mares one time, but very happy that blasted Minotaur has finally been conquered once and for all. We fought him a few times.

No more character described as "bull-headed" or "hard-headed" - yay!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments My banked 'Visions' works a finished book for one of the new tasks:

Character goes to jail/prison (Gabriel arrested in book and spends jailtime)

It just covers 1 of them, so not sure if we have another book for now that works for more to use.

I'm feeling much better today. Kind of the tired restless I get when I've been sick for a bit and want to do "things".

I was browsing a few boxes of books a friend gave me when she moved and Little Fires Everywhere looks like it takes place in the suburbs (Shaker Heights, Ohio). I'm going to start this after I finish my current book unless someone says it's not a suburbs book.

Lernaean Hydra

Lernaean Hydra has entered your lands and destroying villages as it looks for a new home. If you manage to defeat this monster be prepared to answer "how are you still alive" every time you tell the story. The monster is interested in shiny things and is unconcerned about losing their head(s). Best be quick.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book 800 pages or longer.
2.) Read a book with MPG Adventure.
3.) Read a book with gold text on the cover.
4.) Read a book where the MC has a sister.
5.) Read a book that is #9 or higher in a series
