Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Oh yay, off to get a new monster to play with!

message 1002: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments We got something new! Checking the bank for options now. :)

Empusa

Empusa aka the Karen of ancient Greece (view spoiler) has been spotted on your lands causing havoc like a one monster homeowners association from hell. Easy to defeat with the right mindset, try telling her you ARE the manager.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 100 and 125 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that takes place in the suburbs.
3.) Read a book with a character who is a bully (your interpretation).
4.) Read a book with sandals on the cover (flip-flops/thongs accepted).
5.) Read a book where the MC owns a cow or dog.

message 1003: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I penciled in some options, we're going to need a book to cover "takes place in the suburbs" and "sandals on the cover."

message 1004: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Hi team, sorry I haven’t been as active on our thread as I would like to be. This past weekend I had a last minute flight to visit an ill Aunt. And today my husband may need emergency back surgery, he is losing left leg function and has terrible pain. He had surgery for scoliosis as a teenager but it’s been 35+ years so it seems the rods are failing. I’ll be reading as it seems I will have lots of sitting around time, so I’ll try to add books when I can.
All this just in time for a holiday (US) weekend ☹️

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Wow Trinia I'm so sorry, that's a lot of stress. Praying for the best for your aunt, husband, and you.

message 1006: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments So sorry to hear that Trinia. Sure is a lot to deal with. Take the time you need for you and your family.

message 1007: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments Trinia, I am so sorry. That is a lot going on. I hope that your aunt and husband will be ok and make sure to take care of yourself.

message 1008: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Thanks everyone 💗

message 1009: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments It's the worst when things pile up like that, sending you some positive wishes Trinia! <3

message 1010: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I finished The Eye of the World today and slayed the Minotaur and OF COURSE, we got another Cyclops!

@vian can you confirm that the MC of In Sheep's Clothing is a farmer? I'm reading the synopsis and it isn't obvious.

message 1011: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I finished The Witch's Heart. It looks like it fits for a lot of different monsters.

message 1012: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Vicky wrote: "I finished The Eye of the World today and slayed the Minotaur and OF COURSE, we got another Cyclops!

This is the same book that Erin read, MC is a sheep farmer and wooler - colonial ranch

message 1013: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments That is a lot to happen all at once, Trinia! Sending you, your aunt, and your husband my best wishes.

message 1014: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Louise wrote: "This is the same book that Erin read, MC is a sheep farmer and wooler - colonial ranch"

Ooph, don't know how I missed that one! lol I'm moving Wolf's Bane that was holding a slot in one of our Typhons to this one to get him gone!

message 1015: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Apparently this is the time of the day when the least captains/mods are on to get us a new random monster. LOL

I'm going to go hop in the shower and hopefully be able to report a new monster when I come back!

message 1016: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments @ Louise - Thanks for replying to Vicky.

I had a feeling that book would come in handy, lol.

message 1017: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments Trinia I'm really sorry that you're having to deal with so much. I'm sending healing thoughts your way.

message 1018: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments We got a new monster! I'm going to do a full recap in the next post.

Colchian Dragon

Colchian Dragon has been seen on your lands, searching for a new and improved golden fleece. Maybe a platinum one? He's not the strongest monster around but still takes some effort to put down. Likes music and is distracted from finishing his tasks.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 200 and 299 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book from an unfinished series.
3.) Read a book with a musical instrument on the cover.
4.) Read a book with MPG Epic Fantasy.
5.) Read a book with a yellow cover (at least 50%).

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments HIDE is in the bank for Yellow Cover.

Edited to add - oh good, you guys noticed I had it banked for that in case this monster came up. :) Glad it fit two areas.

message 1020: by Vicky (last edited Jun 30, 2022 06:03PM) (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments We have 12 tasks currently outstanding and only one has officially been spoken for. I've bolded 4 tasks that we definitely need to fill.

Tasks 2-5 for both Typhons are easily handled with Zeus - I think Erin is reading it, and I'm going to grab it this weekend.

My next audio is going to be The Great Hunt, so I could cover the rest of the Colchian Dragon with it - but it might be a week to finish, so I'm definitely open to other people grabbing those. Though it might be difficult to find EPIC fantasy that isn't a long read. LOL

Also if you have anything that might fit for these tasks, let me know. It looks like some of us are filling out for more immediate tasks and others are trying to fill out for everything that could possibly come up - so it's possible we have something that I don't know about! :)

-->Sirens
T104 Read a Book With a Rope on the Cover // Ghouls Gone Wild, Erin

-->Typhon
T111 500-650 Pages
T114 Title Contains All Letters in ZEUS

-->Typhon 2
T126 500-650 Pages
T127 Mentions a Volcano
T128 Lightning on the Cover
T129 Title Contains all Letters in ZEUS
T130 MC is a father

-->Empusa
T132 Takes Place in the Suburbs
T134 Sandals on the Cover

-->Colchian Dragon
T143 Musical Instrument on the Cover
T144 MPG Epic Fantasy (Note this is specifically EPIC fantasy and not just fantasy)

message 1021: by Kerri (new)

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments I have a question. How specific does the mention of a volcano have to be? Because there is a group of islands that were created by a volcano in Fevered Star and it is mentioned in the story. Would that work?

message 1022: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Gah! Those sandals are hard to find. None on my current reads. I’ll keep looking , just might be a while to finish. When do we have to finish ? End of month?

message 1023: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments The lady on the cover is wearing sandals. Does this work for that prompt?

The monsters ends July 15th

It's been a busy week so reading slowed down since weekend. However, can pick up tomorrow and for the 3 day weekend. After finishing Ghouls, will do Zeus.

message 1026: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Found it, July 15th 😁 might find a big book to read then

message 1027: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Lol, thanks Erin ☺️

message 1028: by Stacey (last edited Jun 30, 2022 07:42PM) (new)

Stacey | 897 comments Just finished my latest. It's best if we get Charybdis - counts for 3, 4 if a spaceship counts as a boat, but I doubt it.

Would this be 50% yellow? It's my next read as I finally got the hold in.
The Measure by Nikki Erlick

message 1029: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments I will definitely take the task to read a book 500-650 pages, just need to decide which one 🤪

Yep sure does

message 1032: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Good morning all it’s Happy Friday. Currently reading Dead I Well May Be which I’ll have finished this morning, it’s very dark and violent, I can then pick up Zeus on audio.

Also got Two for the Dough on ebook on the go for my maze.

Awesome! I updated the spreadsheet.

message 1034: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I just realized that my copy of The Great Hunt will NOT work for musical instrument on the cover... stupid plain boring audiobook covers!

message 1035: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Hello!!!

I feel like I have missed a lot in here. This past week has been super busy. I some how got side tracked from finishing my book organization to spring cleaning in the summer LOL

I have gotten some reading done here and there. I have only been trying for a week to get some books posted.

@Erin thanks-- Murphy(my furbaby) is doing much better. I'm still not sure what was wrong with him.

message 1036: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments We have defeated another Zeus

message 1037: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments ...and promptly got the same monster back. LOL The wheel of monsters is not on our side.

message 1038: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Typhon

Typhon aka the Father of Monsters has been spotted on your lands. Very hard to kill and not known for showing mercy.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 500 and 650 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that mentions a volcano
3.) Read a book with lightning on the cover
4.) Read a book where the title contains all the letters in ZEUS
5.) Read a book where a MC is a father

message 1039: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Well - the good news is I also planned to read Zeus! Now we just need to worry about those 500-650 page books!

message 1040: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Also - a reminder that the Warship battle starts today!

We're going to need to contribute five books for the week, but we've got options. We're defending classic, science and contemporary genres. Hop over to the Mythics group for more info about what we need so prying eyes don't steal our strategies!

message 1041: by Louise (last edited Jul 01, 2022 01:39PM) (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Planning to read Jane Eyre @532pgs and Plain Bad Heroines @640pgs

message 1042: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments I will be finishing my current audiobook sometime tomorrow - probably pretty early. With all of the different things going on, what would you like me to focus on? Specific task(s), genres, or just page count?

I'm also starting Adriadne tonight, but I almost always have 1 audio and one non going at a time.

Med issues can be weird like that, but so glad he's doing better now.

I just got home from mom's birthday dinner, which I cooked Cottage (Shepherd's Pie), homemade bread, and a cake for - and aunt brought salad. Now back to clean the disaster of a kitchen. I am snoozy but hope to wake up. So full too!!

I noticed but so far whatever is going on is extremely confusing to me. Can't wrap my mind around it but will keep an eye on it.

message 1045: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments @Stacey - I think page count is a solid goal - we still need 2 500-650 books.

message 1046: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm also reading The Dragon Reborn at 624 pages but it might take me a few more days since I'm only 20% in. If someone finishes first they can definitely grab it and my book can be banked!

It's Canada Day today so I had today off work, been busy celebrating though so not much reading time, but I should have lots of time this weekend :)

message 1047: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Good Morning all. Well the audio I was reading yesterday for the Gift exchange challenge didn’t actually work, it seems I cannot spell. Dead I Well May Be does not contain Aladdin, so picking up In a Gilded Cage to listen to this morning while getting housework done before going out for lunch and a hair appointment.

Looks like everyone has had a busy week
@Robin so glad you’re furbaby is on the mend.

@Erin sounds like you had a fab time. Love homemade cottage pie and shepherds pie, in the UK they are named by whether they contain beef or lamb.

@Kelsi happy Canada day hope you don’t suffer too much and enjoy a relaxing weekend

Louise | 3331 comments I think Two for the Dough works for suburbs. It set in the outskirts of Trenton and Stephanie plum describes her neighbor as mr suburbia

message 1049: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments For Battleship, I can read Ariadne (Mythology, Retelling, Historical Fiction) and/or a SciFi/Space Opera Book to the Planning pages. I don't want to take too many of our spots since we only have 5. Anyone else have thoughts?

I won't be able to read any for the next round, but I think I'm also over my #s for the game.

Can you post this in Mythics 😉
