We're going to end this mini barely standing against an army of.... Minotaur

The Minotaur has been seen on your lands, frolicking through fields and enjoying freedom for the first time. If you manage to defeat him, you will spend the rest of your life wondering how you survived. Don't forget some rope!
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book 800 pages or longer.
2.) Read a book where the MC gets lost.
3.) Read a book with a map in it.
4.) character described as "bull-headed" or "hard-headed".
5.) Read a book with a Goodreads rating of 4.0 or higher.
Okay this isn't terrible - when I finish Akata Woman for the Africa task, I'm planning to start Eye of the World which will work for everything BUT the hardheaded task and I think Stacey is still reading for that. So we should have it covered!
Week 1 Mini Recap! We're a little behind the other teams on this mini, we're at 320 points and the average of all teams is just about 400. The random wheel generator Gods are clearly not smiling on us with all these Minotaurs and Lions and Cyclopses!
I shuffled some things around on the spreadsheet today to utilize some books that are currently finished so we have less tasks to wait on to complete kills. The books currently outstanding to slay monsters are:
Minotaur
T1 - 800+ Pages // Edge of Eternity, Kelsi
Nemean Lion
T17 - Set in Africa // Akata Woman, Vicky
T19 - Plain on Cover // The Most Eligible Lord in London, Annalisa
Polyphemus
T27 - Set on an Island // More Tales From an Island Nurse, Louise
T29 - Sheep + People on Cover // More Tales From an Island Nurse, Louise
Minotaur
T41 - 800+ Pages // Their Finest Hour, Jax
T42 - MC Gets Lost // The Moonlight School, Robin
T43 - Book w/ Map // Their Finest Hour, Jax
T45 - 4.0+ Rating // Their Finest Hour, Jax
Minotaur
T61 - 800+ Pages // Eye of the World, Vicky
T62 - MC Gets Lost // Eye of the World, Vicky
T63 - Book w/ Map // Eye of the World, Vicky
T64 - bull/hard-headed // Hardheaded, Stacey
T65 - 4.0+ Rating // Eye of the World, Vicky
Ugh, a minotaur again *face palm*On a positive note, finished a book we can bank (the ghost hunters) at least, and should have get at least one or two more finished tomorrow. Was hoping we'd get variety with our monsters at some point. *slumps off*
At least the sequel I'm reading now has a rope on the cover if that comes up again
Hey ya'll!!! I got my errands run : ) It was so HOT. I did get one book finished--Gone with the Wind It took me several days to finish. I love this book but I can only read a little bit of it at a time. Next time I read this I'm going to try the audiobook. I have several physical books on the go, as well as some audiobooks so I'm not sure what I will finish next.
Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* wrote: "I went ahead and moved it.At least one book I'm reading has a map, so you are right those are easier to come by - plus, some other books for Minotaur aren't finished yet anyway."
Good call as the book I'm reading for 2 of the other prompts also has a bunch of maps so that line is covered. I also just finished it.
Looks like everything is covered for now so I'm going to finish a couple BOMs and wait to see what our next monster is.
Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "Hey ya'll!!! I got my errands run : ) It was so HOT. I did get one book finished--Gone with the Wind It took me several days to finish. Jax wrote: "Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "Hey ya'll!!! I got my errands run : ) It was so HOT. I did get one book finished--Gone with the Wind It took me several days to finish. I marked the pages of my book of where bullheaded was mentioned--I think 4 different times.
Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "As soon as a Mod verifies my book for MC gets lost-- we will have that Minotaur slayed : )"Hi Robin if you are referring to your question here Vicky has already clarified that it works.
Any queries with regards to book qualifications should at first be resolved within the team. If no consensus can be reached we can take it to the Captains thread for a decision where their decision is final.
Louise wrote: "Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "As soon as a Mod verifies my book for MC gets lost-- we will have that Minotaur slayed : )"Hi Robin if you are referring to your question here Vicky has already clarifie..."
So that means that the minotaur T41 (we have too many of them and now we have to name them) is slain. On to the next!
New MonsterScylla

Scylla has been spotted close to your shores and endangering ships heading for the harbor. Very hard to defeat and best to avoid if possible, is very touchy when Circe is mentioned.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 500 and 650 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book with a body of water on the cover.
3.) Read a book that features a sacrifice of some type (your interpretation).
4.) Read a book that features a sorceress.
5.) Read a book whose title contains the word "FIRE".
Missing BooksThese books are marked as read in the spreadsheet but not on shelves.
@Celia - Soulbound
@Jax - The Book of Cold Cases
@Robin - Gone with the Wind
Ohhh if Robin finished Gone with the Wind I am totally game for putting that in the newest minotaur slot. We could use it with Jen S' Warrior Midwife to cover everything but someone getting lost... none of those currently on the spreadsheet does anyone have anything that qualifies?
Louise wrote: "Seeking clarity on this task: Read a book whose title contains the word "FIRE""MODS have clarified the word needs to be on its own 😔
I have a book that fits for three of the new tasks, that is banked, but double checking on this. Bodies of water are always weird on these cartoonish covers, but do you guys think this qualifies as a body of water? It has a sacrifice and sorceress type as part of the story also.
I would definitely say that's a body of water! With that and Trinia's read of Catching Fire plus a book I pulled from the bank we should be able to slay Scylla tomorrow!
I should have my minotaur book done by tomorrow, sorry for the wait!
Jenn wrote: "I'm reading a book on decluttering. Would that count as a sacrifice?"It does say it is your interpretation.... but I'll let the captains chime in.
Louise wrote: "Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "As soon as a Mod verifies my book for MC gets lost-- we will have that Minotaur slayed : )"Hi Robin if you are referring to your question here Vicky has already clarifie..."
Yes, I know lol I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I had previously asked Vicky for verification and she approved it. So I knew it was good to go. What I was trying to say was, as soon as a mod got online and checked off my book as being logged in and tracked we would have that monster slain.
Ok I have Gone With the Wind marked to be on my TT shelf but it's just not showing up there. WHY? lol I have taken it off and put it back but it's not appearing on the shelf but I can see that it's marked to be on TT from another shelf.ETA: It finally showed up. GR has been really glitchy lately. Has anyone else noticed that?
Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "Ok I have Gone With the Wind marked to be on my TT shelf but it's just not showing up there. WHY? lol I have taken it off and put it back but it's not appearing on the shelf but I can see that it's..."Yes. I just now expect things to not show up and am prepared to double check them. Also, while on the topic, not a fan that I keep getting the beta version when a lot of what I want to do I can't figure out how to do in beta.
I've noticed that quite a few people here have kindle unlimited. I also thought that it was just for books that had expired copyrights and ones that were so obscure they weren't of much interest. But I went and looked and it looks like there's quite an array. My question is1) How well does it work if I don't have a kindle?
2) How well does it work if I like non-fiction? Is the selection fairly broad and current?
3) What's your biggest complaint?
Jax wrote: "I've noticed that quite a few people here have kindle unlimited. I also thought that it was just for books that had expired copyrights and ones that were so obscure they weren't of much interest. B..."Kindle Unlimited is definitely not for public domain books. Some, sure, but the majority is self-published or small publishers, with some of the big 4 in there. Amazon also does exclusive deals with bigger named authors directly with their own publishing houses, they have about 7 imprints.
If you do not have a kindle, I would not bother unless you read on your tablet or phone. Non-fiction is a decent offering to me. Again, it depends at the time on the contracts of the big houses.
Biggest complaint? Don't really have one honestly. I've been subscriber for over 7 years and really enjoy it. That said, if you don't like a lot of fantasy, urban fantasy, romance, horror, you may not find enough of a selection to keep it long-term.
Jax wrote: "Robin (Saturndoo) wrote: "Ok I have Gone With the Wind marked to be on my TT shelf but it's just not showing up there. The book was showing the check mark that it was on TT shelf, but when you clicked on TT shelf it wasn't there.
I'm not a fan of the beta version either. It was popping up every once in a while but now it's almost every time. I did a review and told them I didn't like it lol and one of the main reasons is EVERYTHING isn't right in plain sight like the old version. You have to scroll and click for days to find things like MPG etc.
How's everyone doing today? I'm audiobooking today while reorganizing my "own" books that are stacked on top of a filing cabinet,in a bookshelf, on top of a bookshelf and other various places in my room. I created a shelf on GR so as I am organizing I can add them to the shelf. I have no idea what I do/don't own lol so I am sure I will find some hidden treasures. I'm trying to organize by making stacks of YA/children's and adult so when they get put back like genres will be together. Right now everything is just all mixed up.
So far I only have half of the top of the filing cabinet done( 2 stacks) : ( and that ended up being over 100 books. Some of the books I've read and those will go either to the LFL or to my step granddaughter.
I hope you all are having a great day with lots of reading time.
Dropping by to check in! I'm sorry I haven't been has chatty on the thread lately. We've had a lot of stressful things drop into our lap all at once and, as a result, I've been a lot more tired as of late 😅 My stressed brain just wants to sleep so it can ignore all the sources of said stress.Slowly working through my reads, though, and hopefully we can bank them for a monster or two. Especially all these stinkin' minotaurs!
Jax wrote: "I've noticed that quite a few people here have kindle unlimited. I also have a kindle app on my desk top and ipad. So it could work without an actual kindle.
I like nonfiction and there is quite a bit of nonfiction. A lot of the times you can find newer books as well in nonfiction and ficiton.
I'm doing ok. My husband is finally doing better from having covid and our AC got fixed on Monday. So things are looking up. I have a lot of books going trying to finish some of them. I've been trying to mow through my netgalley backlog...staying up late reading. I'm looking forward to having the weekend off again.

That sounds like a fun day! I love organizing books:)
I just spent an evening reading Plum Island on the couch with a waterfall ambience video on the tv and cats nearby. Eyes are tired so sadly done for the night where reading is concerned :/
Glad tomorrow is Friday and I'll have the weekend to look forward to

NEW MONSTER ALERTMares of Diomedes

The Mares of Diomedes are galloping through your lands and nibbling on villagers as they go. They may require only moderate effort to defeat, but don't underestimate them. The Four Horsemen's horses give them wide berth.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 200 and 299 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book with fire on the cover.
3.) Read a book where a character gets poisoned (food poisoning is acceptable, does not have to be fatal).
4.) Read a book whose title contains all the letters of HERA.
5.) Read a book with a Goodreads rating between 3 and 3.5 (inclusive).
Celia wrote: "Sorry I've been MIA, I'm still reaading I'm just slow"That’s ok, can you add Soulbound to your TT shelf please.

Defeated with banked books
It seems there’s a whole pack of them out thereMinotaur

Well, at least we still have my Eye of the World read with Stacey's Hardheaded book in the wings to slay one of those! I'm headed to Boston this weekend for a wedding which is about a 6 hour drive. Not sure if I can talk my boyfriend into listening... although I am the one driving so I control the radio right?! But I could finish as early as Monday or as late as Wednesday depending on how things go.
