Would head-strong work for hardheaded? Guessing not but it is the same idea. It was used in the book I just finished.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Been a little slow in my reading, just not finding as much time as I would like to get my reading in. But I will add my books to the spreadsheet as soon an I get a minute on the computer. I was going to try to do the BOM but I feel like I’m in so many challenges trying to read all these books that I won’t have time to get to them. I will see what all I can get finished

Thanks!!! I will make notes on that. I'm slowly but surely learning spreadsheets from all of you : ) and I appreciate it.

I just recently read that one too!!! How did you like it?
My librarian recommended Into the Drowning Deep and I started reading it. Then I realized there was a prequel. Now I need to go back and finish book 1 lol

No, you don't. Into the Drowning Deep came first and you won't miss anything from the prequel.

Well darn!!! I will get back to book 1 soon. Science fiction, mermaids, mythology isn't genres I read much of, so I was afraid I would miss something if I didn't read the prequel first.
I've been reading The Book of Cold Cases and hope to have it finished in the next couple of days. I'm usually not a fan of horror/scary stories, but for some reason I am drawn to ghost stories. So far I am liking this one : )
I answered the first set of DQs and added the info to the BOM tracking sheet. I hope this was right😟

Rolling in the deep is the prequel that tells what comes before the first full book, Into the Drowning Deep. Have read both of them, interesting series. Cheesy but that's part of the B-horror vibe
The author never followed up with a book 2 though and it's from 2017! It left for a sequel that never came up yet. :/

Glad you are enjoying it :)

I should have my rope book finished tomorrow.

You should read The Sun Down Motel it was my introduction to this author
I have had such an off dayRight now browsing monster cover tasks and getting books in advance that fit just in case - snow, snakes, etc. Have a yellow one already reading that happens to fit if we get that monster later. If not, I'd be reading it either way
@ Louise & Stacey-- The Sun Down Motel is on my TBR. I have read The Haunting of Maddy Clare , Silence for the Dead , and An Inquiry Into Love and Death and really liked all of them. I added The Broken Girls to my tbr : ) Thank you both for helping me keep my mount TBR in check lol Simone St. James reminds me of Heather Gudenkauf. I don't know why because one writes mystery and the other adds in ghosts lol . I really enjoy like both authors.

She's always looking out for me because I'm not much into fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian etc but I'm trying to venture out a little more. Mermaids, werewolves, shifters, vampires, just don't appeal to me. I don't even care for fairy tales and the princesses either. I know, lol, I'm an odd bird.
Thanks!!! I am enjoying The Book of Cold Cases. It's just been the last few years that I started reading mysteries. I'm still a little leary because I'm a fraidy cat and can't handle a lot of gore or scary stuff. When I was younger, horror movies and books didn't bother me. I don't know what happened in my life that changed my outlook of the horror/mystery/suspense genre.
Ugghhh on the off day : ( I have been feeling like that for a week now. My grandsons have been here so that has thrown me off my schedule. I get very little free time when they are here. I do get to read, thanks to audiobooks, while they are out swimming and playing. I hope you get to feeling better : )
I have been going through my stack of sticky notes/notebook and finally getting the books I have read the last few days(week) added to my GR shelves and onto the tracking sheet. I know that's probably not the best method lol but that's how I take notes so I can plug my books into all my 5,000(jk) challenges. Yes, I'm a reading and challenge junkie. @Erin--I went through the monster tasks late last night trying to see if I got anything that fits.
Not that I need any other books/audios SIGHS I'm off to the library to pick up some holds. That's probably not all I will come home with. Then, hopefully, I can sit down to eat dinner with a good book. Did grocery shopping today so I'm indecisive about what to eat for dinner--too many good choices.
I hope you all have a good rest of the evening!!! Relax,Rest and Read : )
Robin, I love Mira Grant (Rolling in the Deep). I read her book Feed first. It's about zombies, something I'm not into. The series though is about relationships and politics more than the zombies, so I loved it. This one is a bit more mythical but it still has her wonderful spin of focusing on the people and relationships.

Grandsons sound cute but it's an adjustment. I have been off all day but feel better visiting with mom a bit
Plus some used books I ordered came in from Thrift Books from the mail. One of them has snake on the cover but may not be next in series yet (Pendergast), so that was a nice surprise.
I have three more coming, the last two in Cainsville (had first three in ebook) and an old classic mystery, Strangers on a Train
Stacey wrote: "Robin, I love Mira Grant (Rolling in the Deep). I read her book Feed first. It's about zombies, something I'm not into. Well, I am back from the library. 16 other books magically jumped in my bag along with my 2 holds. I just love how those books know which person is the perfect reader to go home with😁I made a Pesto shrimp pasta with a garden salad for supper. It was yummy. Now I'm going to catch up on a few of my challenges and audiobook it for a bit. Then, I'll try to finish up some of the physical books I got started. Maybe finish Cold Cases : )
@Stacey @Erin--I have seen Feed by Mira Grant at the library. I will check into getting that one. Any other recommendations is greatly accepted and appreciated regardless of genre. I'm not a fan of zombies either. Although, I recently read The Bone Houses and enjoyed it. "Bone Houses" is the term the author uses instead of Zombies.
@Erin--Thanks : ) The grandsons might be cute, but good glory they are constantly on the go and into one thing after the other lol Glad you are feeling better. I love Thriftbooks. I order from them as well. Enjoy those new to you books : )
Turns out that my Cat-shifter book isn’t actually set in Africa, the Africa that is referenced is journal entries. But it does have hard-headed in there
I have found a book set in Africa, with a cat and plains on the cover Edge of the Rain getting the image updated with the correct audio cover
Louise wrote: "Turns out that my Cat-shifter book isn’t actually set in Africa, the Africa that is referenced is journal entries. That sounds delicious on the pesto salad! And the magical jumping 16 books lol. I am trying to get through an audio from Scribd of The Good House but it's rather boring unfortunately.
I did some bedtime reading and am almost done with the second Cainesville book by Kelley Armstrong. A good sequel and I'm getting more into the series. Have the third on ebook but the fourth/fifth coming from Thrift books (they are pricey ebooks and not available from scribd or libraries)
I am determined to finish the anthology been side-working on, Skeleton Crew, by the weekend. That would work for metal or musical instrument on cover if one of those monsters happen to come up.
I had planned to read the next two books on the Ghost Hunter series by Victoria Laurie too - the 3rd and 4th are up next for me, and one has lightning on cover (3rd) and the 4th has rope on the cover, so good for banked books in case of repeat monster tasks
I forgot how fun these Ghost Hunter mystery books are and thankfully the covers can be banked for different monsters. Have to work till 5 in meetings, ugh, but was able to read a little earlier on a break
It appears Louise got pulled away, so I snuck her book onto the spreadsheet to slay the Sirens....Unfortunately, we didn't kill them dead enough.
Fortunately, Robin had read Rolling in the Deep as well so we only need a rope cover to kill these Sirens again.
Sirens

The Sirens have been spotted on your shores endangering ships heading for the harbor. Easy enough to defeat if you know how, don't recommend calling them one hit wonders though.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 100 and 125 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that takes place on a boat or ship.
3.) Read a book with a character who is deaf (any degree acceptable)
4.) Read a book with a rope on the cover.
5.) Read a book with "Mermaid" in the text.
I’ll have one done in less than an hour. It’s probably good for a lot of things, but that’s one for sure
Stacey wrote: "I’ll have one done in less than an hour. It’s probably good for a lot of things, but that’s one for sure"Oh, yay! If it'll work for rope I think we'll use it and keep things moving along. We definitely got a few stumpers that have us behind the rest of the pack on this, so I think the sooner we can move through some the better! :)
Vicky wrote: "Stacey wrote: "I’ll have one done in less than an hour. It’s probably good for a lot of things, but that’s one for sure"Oh, yay! If it'll work for rope I think we'll use it and keep things moving..."
It's done, logged, and in the spreadsheet. The other things it is good for are all spreadout so it will be perfect there.
This is great. I am working on a few that I know will fit for tasks in case we get them; otherwise, page points later. I'll try to fit books and find books for current tasks too of course as I have been doing. Finally clocked out of work and about to get some more reading in.I can work on a rolling in the deep on the side also in case needed since it fulfills four tasks - maybe we'll get siren again and it will work . I bought it on an audible sale anyway and was curious on listening to it.

That's GREEEEAAATTT ,in my not so great Tony the Tiger voice LOL🤣. And I didn't even plan it that way.
I took the spot of O (5) for Polyphemus task--MC is a farmer. I finished the book this morning and logged it in : )
FYI IF we have that monster again these 2 books will work for MC is farmer and not bad reads. I enjoyed them. I borrowed them from libray as audiobooks. Quick reads too!!!
I am about to do a walk and start Rolling in the deep audio. I need a break from the Good House audio (boring) anyway. I should have this one done by Friday at the very latest, hopefully by tomorrow. The default edition is 123 pages, so thankfully makes the cut off. Some of the other versions are under the page requirements.
Hello Team!!!!I'm only here for a few mins : ( but will check back in about an hour to log in some other books.
On the task M (2) Minotaur--character gets lost--does the character have to get lost and stay lost?
I read
.The MC is on horseback in the mountains and gets lost(temporarily) a couple times while learning her way around the countryside. Would this work for that task? If so I will log it in.
The way I read it, I would think it would just mean they get lost - don't see a requirement they stay lost, that would be pretty hard to find IMO. Most characters eventually find their way before the book ends, one would hope!I'm so bad with directions I would be one of those characters getting lost all the time
Alright, I got Stacey's book in and got our new monster. Emphasis on new! I'm going to take a look through the spreadsheet and see if we have anything in the bank and then we'll see what we need to read!Medusa

The infamous Gorgon sister, Medusa has been spotted on your lands. Hard to kill and is looking for recommendations for a new hair stylist. Hers never seem to last long.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 350 and 450 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that takes place in a desert.
3.) Read a book where someone is beheaded.
4.) Read a book with a mirror on the cover.
5.) Read a book with a snake on the cover.
@ Erin and Vicky --Awesome!!! I will log it in. I have to go to the grocery AGAIN to pick up a couple necessary things we forgot yesterday.
Vicky wrote: "Looks like we have everything for Medusa except a book that takes place in a desert. Any takers?"I might have one! Let me check
Trinia wrote: "I'm currently reading
, one of the short stories takes place in the desert.Wil that work?"
Ughh I want to say yes but I don't think I can, lol. We'll let someone else chime in too but I think a majority of the book needs to be set in a desert for it to count.
@Erin - Would The Gunslinger work for set in a desert? I know we have it penciled in for a map in a book, but I'm sure we've got more of those then we have deserts!
Vicky wrote: "@Erin - Would The Gunslinger work for set in a desert? I know we have it penciled in for a map in a book, but I'm sure we've got more of those then we have deserts!"Yes, it is in an other-world desert and called desert all the time in the book. Water is a commodity
Actually, the very first line of the book says:“The man in black fled across the desert and the Gunslinger followed.”
I went ahead and moved it.At least one book I'm reading has a map, so you are right those are easier to come by - plus, some other books for Minotaur aren't finished yet anyway.
Rolling in the Deep is awful point wise, so will save if we get Sirens again, but may not finish re-read for general points since it's so low. I will listen to some more of it tomorrow, about to switch to physical reading for a bit of other books. When used for four tasks for the monster, that adds 20 points to it, which makes it worth it
I just can't wait for the other boring audio to finally end so I can move on

Nice find! I also have that one to re-read sometime if we need another in the future for a Siren. Since it works for four of the tasks, will keep in mind. Had you read it before or is this a new read for you?
