@Vian: Nice! Enjoy 11/22/63, if you get to it during the challenge let us know what you think of it :)

@Erin: Pizza all weekend sounds like a fantastic idea. I did that last weekend and it was great!

I'm so excited for the weekend! I have a date night tonight, going to my favorite restaurant, then to see the new Jurassic Park movie. Then I plan to do a ton of reading Saturday and Sunday! No plans other than a dentist appointment (yuck), so should finally be able to catch up on some books!

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I just found a KU book that definitely works for three of the Cyclops tasks (island, sheep/people and farmer) and possibly a 4th (trickery, but I can't tell what's going on from the preview) - the only thing it definitely won't work for is page count. But we have a book in the bank that does work for page count.

Ordered a pizza deal as I plan to snack on all weekend since son is out of town - no cooking..."

Sounds yummy! and relaxing ;D

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments The pizza already got here - I'm amazed. Is very good :D

You can knock off my Plum Island if you need to and finish yours first. I can reserve it for the next Cyclops or another task once finished.

Don’t worry about it! It was confusing with a new mini with codes and task numbers. So many layers.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Hello Team! I should've known that as soon as the mini started something in Real Life would happen lol I had a dr appt on the 15th and right after had to go pick up my 2 grandsons. They will be going home on Sunday.

So sorry to hear about everyone getting sick with Covid. I hope everyone gets to feeling better soon. My DIL's mother tested positive for it on Thursday. My oldest son has been feeling under the weather but hasn't tested positive for Covid. Hopefully he just has a summer cold.

I have some books to add to the spreadsheet when I get a free moment. If not tomorrow, I will try to get them added Sunday.

message 759: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments We'll see if I get to that KU book, it looks interesting but I also really want to make a dent in my backlog of BOM reading to get those points in. Which of course I will not be getting to until later today...

I've got a TON of errands to run. Library, Lowe's (for more garden supplies), I'm going to check out a few thrift stores (the boyfriend and I just bought a house in January and it's still very sparse, LOL), need to find a dress for a wedding party next weekend which will likely take a million stores, want to hit the farmer's market and I'm doing my grocery shopping for the week so I don't have to go out again tomorrow!

Taking my earbuds with me for some listening, but not sure how much I'll actually get to.

Louise | 3331 comments Another Minotaur

Minotaur

The Minotaur has been seen on your lands, frolicking through fields and enjoying freedom for the first time. If you manage to defeat him, you will spend the rest of your life wondering how you survived. Don't forget some rope!

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book 800 pages or longer.
2.) Read a book where the MC gets lost.
3.) Read a book with a map in it.
4.) character described as "bull-headed" or "hard-headed".
5.) Read a book with a Goodreads rating of 4.0 or higher.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Yech, we are definitely getting the duplicates.

I went swimming with friends today and had a blast - then we hit a storm. Now back home cuddling with one of the kitties on the couch and watching Sphere in TV. The rain cooled the weather off. Very chill day, loving it.

I did read some and plan to read more later this evening.

Jax (jaxn) | 286 comments I am halfway through a book that covers 1,3,5 for the Minotaur. Should have that done around Wednesday. Not sure if I should put that on the spreadsheet.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments As a reading update,

I am into the second of the Felix Castor Urban Fantasy series, and about to start the second in the Cainesville series. Both are good page counts.

I ordered the rest of the Cainsville series from Thriftbooks and have the rest of the Castor series ready. Also going to finish up Hide as a smaller page count but easy to read, and 75% in to the anthology for Skeleton Crew.

I am almost done with The Gunslinger, which is a 300+ page count but it's mainly the sequels who have large page counts. I am doing audio of The Good House mainly, which is kind of boring but also a good page count.

I also ordered some more of the Pendergast series in addition to some I want to re-read, which are good page count books. I am at the beginning of Plum Island, which can fit the Monsters and is a large page count.

I am not doing BOM this month but have one for the month after. I will keep fitting books as read for this current mini. If they don't fit current, will do Monster Banks.

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Almost finished with Crime and Poetry (Magical Bookshop, #1) by Amanda Flower I have a few more going. Trying to read books 300+ if possible.

I have the Witch's Heart to Read.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I have finally finished my re-read of The Gunslinger. That took longer than I had planned!

message 772: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Happy Sunday, Team!

I don't have any great reading news, other than some progress here and there. I was out way longer than expected yesterday on my errands, but I did manage to find an outfit for a friend's wedding next weekend (ALWAYS a hassle, I HATE clothes shopping!) and an amazing bookish find!

I was checking some of the local thrift shops for furniture (I don't remember if I mentioned at the start of the challenge that my BF and I bought our first house in January, we had both been staying with our parents so we didn't have much in the way of common room furniture. We're slowly acquiring!) and of course I had to stop and check the book wall at Goodwill. I'm browsing and I notice some books are sticking out weird so I start pulling them out and I found the entire paperback series of The Dark Tower in practically new condition and ALL MATCHING. It was $20 for the whole set. I'm OBSESSED. I've never read them... but I guess now I have to! lol

Today has been a productive home day, but I lost my earbud somewhere along the way and haven't been audiobooking for most of the day. By 9am I had a pot of vegetable stock simmering on the stove, a hot breakfast AND dinner in the crockpot. I put a final coat of polyurethane on my living room floor (I refinished the floors myself before we moved in but because of time didn't get a final coat on two room - today was the first day it was nice enough to open the windows and get a good cross breeze to deal with the fumes, so I had to take advantage!), cleaned out my car and did a ton of garden maintenance plus repotted some new seedlings.

Now if only my laundry would finish itself....

message 773: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments Drove back from the beach yesterday and starting to get back to normal. I didn't get to read as much as I had hoped due to extended family but still good. I'm behind on the current BOM, but will finish shortly and have 2 audiobooks going since I didn't feel my first was a good choice for everyone to listen to on the car ride. Unfortunately I choose poorly and picked a longer read than I intended to so we will see what I finish. I'm not sure how well they will fit for the monster challenges.

I'll start the monster book tomorrow if we still need it or will choose another soon.

message 774: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments @Erin The edition of The Gunslinger you shelved has 315 pages on Goodreads, but you put 231 on the spreadsheet. Which one is right?

message 775: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I just went through the bank to see what options we have for killing our current monsters, and it's not great. Between these bull-headed characters and the sheep/farmers we've got a rough batch of monsters to kill.

I added an additional column on the right with ideas/plans/things we definitely need or should be on the lookout for. Hopefully it will help clear up what we need to keep killing monsters!

message 776: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I'm currently reading The Most Eligible Lord in London (The Lords of London #1) by Ella Quinn . It might work for plain on the cover. I found this in the text but I don't know that it is referring to a character, so much as a cow.

"I do vow it." Fitzwalter actually looked insulted. "I'd never hurt a cow, no matter how hardheaded she is."

Would that work? Also, I can't remember if we need the - or not.

message 777: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Looks like a plain to me!

Not sure about the cow - unless it's a particular cow that plays a role in the story, I suspect it would be a no.

Sorry, corrected. It's the 315 version in paperback form I read, corrected now

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I am tipsy and trying to sober up - too much wine! Made tacos and drank remaining wine in Fridge while watching the Boys but now, oh boy on the drowsiness

I'm glad you found an outfit. I generally dislike clothes shopping depending on what it is - my weight and pants make it a pain.

Glad today has been so productive for you. Mine has mainly been relaxing and lazy but marvelous. Hope you find your missing earbud!!

Agree, right now the monsters are a bit of a chore with some of the repeat tasks but will keep an eye out for some of the difficult ones as I am wrapping up other books! Hopefully we get new monsters soon!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments And please feel free, again, to remove Plum Island if you finish a book that works first! I'm sure it will come in handy later if not used here. Don't want to hold the monster slaying up

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I finished a book that works for two of the tasks for Plum Island, so replaced those. Once I read Plum Island, will work for island slot if no one reads an island book first.

Hopefully someone soon is described as "hard-headed" or "bull-headed" when reading one of these lol

Louise | 3331 comments Happy Monday everyone, looks like we’ve had mixed fortunes in the team. Sending good wishes and speedy recovery to those who are feeling under the weather. Everyone seems to have enjoyed their weekend. I over indulged a little Friday night so was feeling a bit fragile on Saturday. Reading wise I seem to have a number of books on the go (my challenges are not playing ball 😔

The Book of Cold Cases hoping to finish this in the next day or two.
A Proper Companion need to have this finished by Wednesday
Waking the Beast I really need to get this done this week so I can move forward with my maze.
I’ve found an audio for sheep and person Animal Camp Lessons in Love and Hope from Rescued Farm Animals by Kathy Stevens so will have that done today, I’ll keep the other in reserve

Louise | 3331 comments NEW MONSTER

Sirens

The Sirens have been spotted on your shores endangering ships heading for the harbor. Easy enough to defeat if you know how, don't recommend calling them one hit wonders though.

To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 100 and 125 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that takes place on a boat or ship.
3.) Read a book with a character who is deaf (any degree acceptable)
4.) Read a book with a rope on the cover.
5.) Read a book with "Mermaid" in the text.

message 787: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments I have a book I'm 1/2 way through that has 'mermaids' in the text. I was hoping it would fit for more.

Into the Drowning Deep is a great book and works for tasks 2, 3, and 5. I have to check when I finished it. Not sure if it was too soon.

message 788: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments I'll also finish The Witch's Heart by the end of the day. It's really quite good. It would give us BOM points plus it fits for so many different prompts for the monster mini.

message 789: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Just dropping in quick because I'm listening to The Master and Margarita and I just heard fig! I don't think we need it yet but just wanted to drop the note lol

message 790: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments Finished Witch's Heart. I'll finish up my 2 audiobooks and I'll start on the Hard-headed one. Looks like we will need it, plus I think it has a farmer and some other things.

message 792: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments I found out Hardheaded is free with KU, so I will start soon. Looks like a quick romance and definitely has someone being called 'hardheaded' in it. Just in case others want to read for the wording.

Just downloaded.

Been snooping other threads White Hot has bull-headed in

message 794: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I snooped a bit too and found a book that fits all the Siren tasks EXCEPT the rope. I grabbed the audiobook from my library and it's 3 hours regular speed - I won't finish it tonight but I'll finish it first thing tomorrow morning!

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) | 1359 comments Hey Team!!! This is probably a stupid question but I need help : )

As you all know, I am spreadsheet challenged lol I was going to update my books on the tracking sheet but I can't remember the last books I posted. When I look at the tracking sheet, I can't see anything that was posted before 6/15/22. So I can only see item numbers 244-present. How do I see what was posted BEFORE the mini challenge started?

I'm thinking that the last thing I posted was the books I read on 6/10/22 but I'm not sure. So I haven't updated any of my books.

message 796: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I think Louise hid those columns because it was getting overwhelming. Looks like The Good Nurse and Third Grave Dead Ahead are both there from the 10th and those are the last!

Hi Robin I hid everything with a read date of before this mini started so that we could easily see what books are available for this current mini. To view the hidden rows you can “unhide”, look for the arrow and highlight the row and right click to bring up available options; if on the app press and hold to bring up various editing options.

message 799: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments I finished Rolling in the Deep which works for Siren tasks 1,2,3&5, so as soon as Louise hits her rope book we'll be good for that task.

I *think* I have everything recorded correctly but I'm on my phone at work so if something is amiss with my shelving I'll fix it when I can get on my computer!
