Nothing But Reading Challenges discussion
Tower Teams 9 - The Muses

Team Circe
Just checking in! It's been a busy week at work, but I'm making steady progress with Fevered Star. Unfortunately, my daughter just tested positive for Covid. She's feeling pretty ick, sore throat, headache, and exhausted. So far, no one else in the family is feeling sick, so I'm hoping we can keep it contained! Tomorrow is the start of her summer break, too, poor kid.I'm hoping to get a lot reading done this weekend to help slay these monsters!
Hey Team, just checking in. It's been a little busy lately. Tomorrow is the last day of the school year for me. So, I'm hoping to get done early and then finish a few books.
Man, a lot of people are getting covid again. My brother is pretty sick as of yesterday but no one else yet. Hope all feel better soon.
That bull-headed task is driving me NUTS. I loaded up the Kindle cloud reader on my computer and I've been searching book after book and only found one so far. I would say that I hope we don't get too many minotaurs, but I know as soon as I say it we'll random another one.... so I'm just saying it, just letting you know that I'm thinking it.

I don't think it normally has a hyphen unless it's misspelled or an unusual spelling
Miriam dictionary says it's one word
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dicti...
Dictionary.com web address has the hypen in the URL, BUT the word in the dictionary is one without the hyphen
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/bul...
Vocabulary.com says its one word without a hyphen
https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary...
Urban Dictionary says it's one word without a hyphen
https://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...
Thesaurus has a hyphen for it but it's the only one I can find. I haven't been able to find it spelled the way it's on the task list either, but assuming either will work. Haven't searched with the correct spelling yet, hopefully that brings up more books.
I'm sure you can find it in some books used incorrectly or unusual spellings of it, but harder. Especially self-published or small publishers without good editors probably - I have plenty of those subscribing to Kindle Unlimited LOL
Edited to add - looks like it can be hyphened but isn't always according to the hyphenation website, so I really think bullheaded would work as well as bull-headed https://www.hyphenator.net/en/word/bu... --- even on the hyphenated site they don't hyphenated unless saying you can if you want, but when they write it out, it's without the hyphen
I've been focusing on finishing some books I've been nearing the end of after the two monsters I did tasks for. If they can't work now they can be banked at least, which I'm loving we can do.
Would this work for plains and/or hands on cover? If both, it would work for 4 of the 5 tasks in the newest monster. Not sure about the cat...
I should be reading but I'm tired and sitting here aimlessly while playing on laptop and watching season 2 of the boys. May have some wine and a bath later with some reading and candles --- thankfully tomorrow is Friday and is another three day weekend for me!
I've been trying both options as well as bull, hard and head on their own. The one I found, I searched "hard head" no hyphen and it returned hard-headed with hyphen. Honestly these are very challenge search terms to find in a kindle mostly filled with romance... lol

I'm surprised hard-headed isn't used in more books. That one I've only ever seen with a hyphen (I think!!), so that one doesn't seem to be in error or typo.
I've heard the phrase before. Bullheaded, I don't think I've heard, maybe it's a regional area thing. A lot of my books are US based, some UK, or else I just never hear the latter word. Who knows! Maybe it used to be more common. Wonder if it's in some older mysteries, Hm.
Will search my kindle later and see what I can come up with.

"Hands definitely. Plains, less definitely, but I feel like the fact that it's set in Uganda leads me to believe that the abstract is meant to be a plain with a mountain in the background? Second opinions!?
I found a book called bullheaded, but it doesn't really call the person that (although the word is used 1 time in the book). I found another called Hard Headed, but I can't get the ebook, just the audio and I don't want to pay for it if it won't work.
To me it looks like an artistic concept of plains, which I think would be okay if you asked me, but I'm not sure if they want a photograph type instead. Not sure if would be 'open' plains enough?

I get not wanting to spend money on some of the tasks - I've found books that fit some things but I don't want to spend 10-15 bucks on the task if it's not a big I'm that interested in.
I'm getting sleepy again. Very little reading done this evening - ugh. Going to go lay down and read a bit before going to bed. Almost done with Omens.
Man, there is a lot of covid going around. It took me almost two weeks to finally test negative. I hope you all are taking care of yourselves. On the book front, I'm reading
which might count for hands. The first book in the series also has hands on the cover.
Hey Team!! I’m reading Tower of Dawn. I will need about two days to finish it but I just found that it has “bullheaded” the one word trick helped. So this one book could cover all of the tasks for the Minataur except for page count. (:
Hey all! Just checking in, I'm still working on Edge of Eternity for 800+ pages but might be a few days before I finish it so if someone finishes first please claim the task so we can get a new monster! I was hoping to finish it faster but real life has gotten in the way of reading the last week or so. Thankfully things seem to be calming down a bit now so I can get back on track.
I'm also working on The Valley of Horses, The Witch's Heart, and My Brilliant Friend :)
I didn't get a chance to check in when I finished it, but I did read 11/22/63 and loved it! Definitely a bit different for Stephen King, but just as good as his other books. I still have Under the Dome out from the library as well, hoping to get to that soon.

I haven't read 11/22/63 yet but have done Under the Dome before. So cool so many people read King for these challenges

I never go back and watch the shows based on books. I still want to watch Big Little Lies
I'm working on a few books today! Did find hard headed in
but probably won't be able to get to it. I'll look through some more tasks later. Got a facial appt today! Haven't done that in years.
Also had a run in with a black widow spider, not sure if she actually bit me so I consider myself lucky because I'm pretty sure I would know! LOL
Happy Friday y'all!
Big Little Lies was so good! I will definitely need to check out 11/22/63 too, although we don't get Hulu in Canada so I'll need to find a way to watch it. It may be on Crave, usually that's where I find Hulu shows.

I LOVED Big Little Lies and watched it twice, then read the book. They did a good job with that one.
Have fun with the facial - eek on the spider!
Good to know ladies! I will have to prioritize Little Big! Do you think hubby will tolerate it? 😂So far so good.. Trinia 1, Spider 🕷 0 😅

It is more woman focused but a good story and acting, so hopefully!

I just finished Legends and Lattes (line 265) and am about to finish Tea Time for the Traditionally Built (line 297).Can they be combined with lines 251 or 252 to finish the new Nemean Lion?
edit: I am thinking the new one because it takes advantage of the plain book being set in Africa and knocking out both those tasks.
I'm just getting in from work - let me take a look!Edit: Yes that looks good, let us know when you finish Tea Time! I'll be around for a while. :)
I finished Omens last night in bed and updated earlier on the spreadsheet. Use wherever. I marked a spot on the monster list in case can be used but also works for one more slotI started a smaller page count, Hide, last night. It should be a fast read. I borrowed from library since it came in based on my request so have to read quickly and return to Overdrive.
Going to work a bit more but hope to get a lot of reading and wrap-ups done tonight.
I'm officially done with the school year!! I'm so glad to have summer break. Now I'm off to get some reading done.
Jen wrote: "I'm officially done with the school year!! I'm so glad to have summer break. Now I'm off to get some reading done."Yay! That is such a great feeling!!! Enjoy :D

I literally just added 11/22/63 to my to be read list. I haven't read a lot of King but I think I need to rectify that.
Trinia wrote: "Looking at Tasks on Monster Codes Tab ... J 3 has the task of 4 in there. Guessing it is a typo?"Ooph, good catch, I fixed it!
Tracking Note!A few things I wanted to clarify after going through the spreadsheet last night.
When putting in the codes for what your book works for, please refer to the "Monster Codes" tab. The letters corresponding to certain monsters are not necessarily abbreviations of that monster (Harpies happened to be H, but Medusa is not M).
Please don't use the task numbers listed on the Monster Mini Planning Tab (T1, etc). These are just sequential numbers given to the tasks to make the spreadsheet work and if a book on that planning sheet uses those numbers and we end up shuffling things around for a more book efficient kill, we'll have to go back later and figure out what that task was.

Finished the last book.

Woo hoo! Let's see about new monster! :)

I have probably messed mine up trying to figure it out lol. Just nudge me if I do future ones wrong - trying to get it right but just in case
Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* wrote: "I have probably messed mine up trying to figure it out lol. Just nudge me if I do future ones wrong - trying to get it right but just in case"No worries! It's a lot and we might not have been super clear so I just wanted to clarify. :)
Welp, unfortunately Polyphemus has a twin. Let me go refresh my memory on sheep. LOLPolyphemus (Cyclops)

Polyphemus has been seen on your lands, searching for a new optometrist. Maybe he can be pacified with a good recommendation for an in-network doctor. Very hard to kill but can be distracted with sheep. He loves his sheep. Also, might distract him by discussing what a complete dink Ulysses really is despite his fame.
To vanquish this monster you must:
1.) Read a book between 500 and 650 pages (inclusive).
2.) Read a book that takes place on an island.
3.) Read a book where a character engages in some sort of trickery (your interpretation).
4.) Read a book with sheep AND people on the cover.
5.) Read a book whose MC is a farmer.
