Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Stopping by to check in - I'm packing up because vacation is over tomorrow. Even though we overdid the sun exposure on day one and have spent the last two days covering as much of our bodies as possible, I'm still sad to go home to responsibilities! LOL

The rest of this week is going to be a little hit or miss with reading - one of our owners is going to be in the workshop next week "making us more efficient" and if it's anything at all like it was two weeks ago when he was in our finish shop nightmare is too kind a word. Hopefully I'll be able to come home and unwind with some reading every night, but it's also possible I'll be cranky and distracted. So we will see how it goes!

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Hey team, I'm thinking of reading The Warrior Midwife after seeing it on Tiktok (haha). I don't see a page count on this book. Does anyone know how I may be able to add that information in? It has an estimate of 335 pages on amazon.

You can ask for a librarian to add the information over in the Captain’s Group

I love the Goodreads Librarian's Group for this as well. They have a whole folder dedicated to page numbering. Unless it's a Kindle book, they prefer people to use Worldcat.org to verify page count.

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I finished a book that was only 134 pages. Is it worth including in the challenge?

My personal opinion is that every book that can count, does count, but I'm not a captain.

I've added it for now. If we need to remove it later we can.

Include everything that counts as we near the end of the challenge we can remove low page counts if we are at risk of going over our team cap.

I added the page count to this edition just now after checking with Amazon page - thank you.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Back to work today - Happy Tuesday everyone.

I'm doing podcasts right now, been awhile. Read a lot this weekend as planned, in between some various books. I have actually been doing the short story a day as planned for anthology, so that is fun side reading. Re-reading Stephen King's Skeleton Crew first, which is a good page count and had good stories. I'm about 35% in right now.

Also reading the second in the Kit and Moriarity series, All she Wrote, which is lower page count but easy read and fun, read to 55% last night. Finished Relic by Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child yesterday as the Pendergast series and decent page count. Still working on: Omens (halfway through as of yesterday), Wildfire BOM (20% through), and starting The Gunslinger and a few others very soon. I am still working on The Guest List mainly in audiobook format on the side. The Gunslinger is not a large page count but the sequels all are, and have to do in refresh order. Was hoping to finish this one before the challenge even started, but you know how that goes.

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) | 1200 comments Just checking in on my last day of vacation! I was off for two weeks while my parents were in town visiting and it has been a blast. Busy, but so much fun. Now I have to get back into the work mindset tomorrow and I wish I had another week of vacation just to chill, haha.

I did finish up another book, though! Finished reading The Merciless Ones, which was one of my most anticipated books of 2022. Thankfully, it lived up to expectations! It didn't blow me away like the first book in the series, but I still loved it. Now I'm waiting til tomorrow to start anything just in case it might work for the Maze. I'll definitely be picking up The Book of Cold Cases and perhaps Fevered Star, my other most anticipated book of the year.

Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

Working on a longer one that should be done in the next couple of days.

message 464: by Vian (new)

Vian (vianvamp) | 363 comments I hope everyone had a great weekend!

I got behind in my reading so I just finished The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue.

I'm going to wait on starting the BOM till tomorrow.

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments Stacey can you please add Single Dad Seeks Juliet to your Tower Teams Shelf?

message 466: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 897 comments Done

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I think the next Mini tasks are on June 15, so other than the maze it's free-for-all page points reading for the time being. As usual I keep bouncing between mood reads, but feel in a reading mode still so that helps. My dry spell is done - this challenge also helps with the book boost!

message 468: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I just finished The Fifth Season so I’ll be starting something new soon. Not sure what yet. I’ll probably try and get a few started on the chance one works for the maze.

message 469: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 2503 comments Finished Handle with Care today. Are we getting close to our cap?

message 470: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) | 286 comments Finished Dune. It's been on my TBR for a long long time. I recognized the element of so many other books in it. And while it's not my usual type of book I understand why it's a classic.

I've got a couple of books queued up to start on the first. I think I typically have 2-3 books going at once, more than that and I lose interest in them. I used to be a strict one book at a time person but now I have my book on my phone and then the book by my nightstand and a non fiction "waking up in the morning" book etc.

message 471: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Good morning all, can’t believe we’re in June the year is flying by. I am now off work for a week and will be heading down to London for a long weekend on Friday, the forecast is looking good super excited.
I don’t have any books on the go at the moment, will pick up something today to squeeze in before I go.

Don’t forget the maze starts 9pm UK time, books used for the maze have to be started from this time onwards. I will post when it starts.

@Trinia no need to worry about the book cap as the challenge enters the final month we’ll likely pull shorter books from our official sheet if we’re at risk of going over.

message 472: by Jen (new)

Jen Sabo | 547 comments Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions about the page count.

I wanted to let you all know that I will be reading but may continue to not check in very often for the next couple of weeks. I work in a school and am busy trying to wrap up end of year things. My last day is June 17 and it can’t get here soon enough. Most of my paperwork needs to be in next week so really it’s a push just to June 13th.

Stacey | 897 comments Just noticed that the June Mod takeover book was chosen. It looks interesting even if it wasn't what I nominated. Book will start June 8th if anyone wants to join or volunteer for DQs with me.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments Have fun with the Maze, it is finally here :0)

Will be exciting when the new Mini Muse tasks are also announced.

Work is over for me for the day and it's been pretty rainy weather, so may go for a brief neighborhood walk with audiobook.

Yes, the Maze is here : ) I'm just lurking over there. I'm kind of lost as to who is reading/can read/claim the task. Too much for my little pea brain to keep up with LOL

I did have a good walk but it wasn't long. The weather has been so hot and muggy, so today was finally nice for a brief walk. I'll keep an eye out on the maze with each task to see if I have something that fits and is unclaimed - I check the private group a few times a day to see any activity - but I don't think it will keep us all incredibly busy since it's one reader for a few teams at once for days at a time. Neat concept, though - it's my first "maze".

Jax (jaxn) | 286 comments I've heard "SRC" a few times here, what's that?

message 484: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments SRC is the Seasonal Reading Challenge - it has its own group here on Goodreads and there are four rounds a year (hence seasonal!). There are 50-60 prompts per season, depending on some variables, and it's a personal challenge but there's also some pretty tight rules on what works.

I have more fun finding books for the challenge than I do actually reading them, haha! I've been doing an unofficial version the last several seasons where I follow the prompts but ignore their requirements for page counts and restrictions on kids books/graphic novels. I won't be on their leaderboard but it's a fun way to force myself to read my backlog of books.

Awesome : ) on having a good walk. It's getting hot and muggy here too. In the evenings if it isn't raining and my chair isn't soaking wet, I go out on the patio and soak up those last few rays of sunshine and read. I was able to borrow Sisters of War from the library and that is my type of story as well. I will contemplate about buying the chosen book, as I'm not real sure I will enjoy it. I will also continue to watch the holds list as sometimes it moves quicker or people decide to pass or miss their hold opportunity : )

Yes, I agree Vicky. Sometimes I have more fun finding the books and planning for it than I do actually reading the books. Although, sometimes I look at the tasks/prompts and think UGHH non-fiction sports, which I'm totally not interested in, but always seem to manage to find something to read. Sometimes I get pleasantly surprised and REALLY enjoy the the books for tasks I was dreading the most.

It is a nice way to knock off that TBR backlog. That is one thing that I don't like about the SRC, as well as my other challenge groups, the restrictions placed upon the children's/graphics books. But I totally get why they do it. Two of my favorite genres get restricted from the jump LOL

I'm on the readerboard and have a task this season that I created. Nothing really hard or extravagant as the task creators are responsible for helping moderate their own task thread. I always keep that in mind : )

Ugh, and I hate when they do the prompt tagged sports - only thing I can stomach is quick sports romances, and I don't like those either. Been there and done that :/

I don't like sports either. I have read a couple memoirs like Beautiful on the Outside which was funny and not too bad - it's ice skating but still labeled sports.

Erin & Jenn: I can't hardly read anything tagged sports. I've read a couple of YA and JF books that got tagged sports but weren't too bad. The Non-fiction sports book I read for the SRC last season was Finding Gobi The True Story of a Little Dog and an Incredible Journey by Dion Leonard

It ended up being more about the the dog than anything LOL so I made it through that one just fine.

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Ughhhh the sports tasks! LOL I'm glad it's not just me.

I just finished Ugly Love which I started and finished today (yay!). It was my first Colleen Hoover book and for all the love she gets I was seriously underwhelmed.

Not sure what direction I'll take next - I'm still working on Wildfire and need to start on The Book of Cold Cases because it's due back to the library this weekend and has holds on it so I can't renew!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6535 comments I'm working pretty late but put on The Guest List as audio for a bit. I'm moving slow when it comes to audio. After that going to read a bit. Finally getting sleepy as I've been having insomnia all week, so crossing fingers.

WTG!!! I read Slammed by Colleen Hoover and at that time really liked it. I read Ugly Love some time later and rated it 1 star. I totally get the being underwhelmed feeling. I think I read one other book by her and gave up. But then again, I'm no longer a huge fan of the romance or new adult genres either.

I find myself in that situation of not being able to renew because of holds. If I can't finish it, I return it and place a hold on it if it's a book I want to really finish soon.

I finished an audiobook but think I'm going to pick up one of the many physical books I have started. Hope you rest well and get some good sleep. Insomnia does suck especially when you NEED that sleep.

Managed to get Book Lovers on kindle for £0.99 so will try and squeeze that in this week.
