Kelly | 2 comments The detective girl finds out he issued a second will leaving the contents of his house to the girl with the burn scar. I read this book in the late 90's/early 2000's. The detective best friend was a black girl and was on the cover of the book with a magnifying glass *I think*. I remember details like the attorney who had notarized the second will was named C.A. Goodman. The very beginning of the book talks about how the two girls became friends over a misunderstanding of two vocab words, pontificate and prevaricate (likely how I learned these words at a young age. The friend with the burn scar is described as not having a lot of money and her mother is an artist. There is a line when the mother first meets the detective girl that is something like "that bone structure, like an African queen, I must sketch" as she is reaching for her sketch pad. I can't remember a single character's first name though I felt like the detective girl's name was Harriet, I might just be pulling that from Harriet the spy. The grandfather figure was an antiques collector who was robbed years prior but ended up still having many precious pieces disguised as junk which he left to the girl with the burn scar and her mother.
