Recent book; 2010's-ish. A girl comes back to her hometown to get her dad's house cleaned out after he dies, there was some family drama with a stepmom, some locked room in the basement she couldn't get into. Next door neighbor is old nemesis/crush, rekindles flames, helps her with house. He throws loud parties, but sneaks out to his back deck because he doesn't really want to be part of the party - his wife died or something. Then there was this book club ran by an owner of a bookstore (older lady). She invites main girl to book club and invites neighbor to speak bc he is an author (I think the girl is too -- some kind of rivalry there). The older ladies love making white russians at book club. I think the girl's dad's mistress belonged to the book club too. Can't remember the ending or the title of the book for the life of me. I think I read on Scribd or Amazon Kindle a couple years ago? The plot of "Beach Read" made me think of this book, so I believe the ideas are similar (without the mystery part). OMG HELP! I'm going insane trying to remember this book. I think it was set in the South (US).

Becca wrote: "The Gone Dead by Chanelle Benz?"Wow, I could see how this would definitely fit my description! But unfortunately, no :( this isn't the book. Sounds interesting though, will definitely check it out! Thank you!
So you're saying it's not Beach Read by Emily Henry? But very similar? And has a mystery aspect?Because Beach Read has the dead father, father's mistress, the house she has to clean up, the locked safe that ends up containing letters from the heroine's father. It has hero throwing raging parties but hanging out on his deck instead. He was previously married, but his wife left him for his college roommate. It has the book club run by a lady named Pete/Posy who owns the bookstore and it has them drinking White Russians specifically. And as the blurb says, hero and heroine are both authors who have apparently been rivals since college.
Do you remember what the mystery was about?
Lauren, please add some plot details to your topic header/title, which is vague now. Use the edit link on the desktop version.
