How it qualifies: Book 4 in the ‘In Death’ series
Review: I’m really enjoying this series and don’t know why it took me so long to start it. In this one Eve and Roarke have returned from honeymoon after dealing with an off planet self termination. Eve needs to establish the link between a number of self terminations as she is sure they are homicides.
I love the future aspect of this series and the way in which the author weaves the story. I only rated this one 4⭐️ as I didn’t feel as though I got any more character development from this one. Looking forward to book 5

Task #2: Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.

Book: Ceremony In Death by J.D. Robb
How it fits the task: We decide to read the In Death series as a team.
Page count: 340pages.
Date completed Apr.16, 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review: Each In Death book gets better; I love Eve & Roarke's flourishing relationship throughout the series.
I appreciate how J.D. Robb delivers a good murder mystery and often infuses thought-provoking aspects that challenge Eve to analyze what she thinks about a philosophical, cultural, social, or religious more. In this case, it's religion and superstition, and Eve deals in facts and won't countenance the idea that the spiritual or beliefs are accurate.
Eve isn’t a one-trick pony. She is intelligent, but she’s so eager to follow her religion of cool detachment that she ignores so many things, like her own intuition. At the same time, she knows when she is wrong to tell it and ask for forgiveness.
Ceremony in Death is more gruesome than the four previous series books. Also, if you are not fond of which crafts, Satanism, and all the black & white magic, this book is not for you.
I am looking forward to reading the next installment.

Review: I was enjoying this until it abruptly stopped. I don’t even know if I would even say it is a cliffhanger. Cooper has been divorced for a year and moping about. His parents decide to escort him out and play wingmen 😂 and he is mortified. This feeling is only enhanced when a girl his parents talk to happen to be the best friend of his ex-wife. Cooper and Nora spend time talking and one thing leads to another and then the book ends.

This was adorable. It was pretty predictable but it didn't matter because I thoroughly enjoyed it. And the scene where they have the fake baby in the newborn class....HILARIOUS. I was cackling so loud my kids thought I was insane.
And of course these two get their HEA in the end. It was well deserved. I loved the two of them together. Lottie brings up Pretty Woman a lot in the book and her and Huxley's story definitely have some Pretty Woman vibes in it, except Lottie's not a hooker.
But this was fun to read and listen to. I went back and forth because sometimes I couldn't listen as fast as I wanted to read but the narrators did a good job of bringing the shenanigans to life.
I'm also excited to see that Lottie's sister Kelsey and Huxley's brother JP are going to have a book too! Definitely looking forward to that!

Review: It is fun to return to the Knightly brothers. From the start, I was laughing, and parts had me crying. You name it, I felt it. Reid and Eve’s friendship was essential to both, and you could feel that. Were there times when I wanted to jump through the book and punch Reid in the face? Absolutely, but watching him become who he is supposed to be inspiring. Also, I can’t get enough of the entire Knightly family. The group chats had me laughing aloud, and baby Brig, that boy needs his own happily ever after. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!
Eve is such a likable female lead! I loved and admired her strength, patience, and kindness. She has such a big heart and works hard to find success, and I felt so proud of her for stepping up for herself and making her dreams come to life. I wanted to give Reid an excellent shake big ass slap for not treating her better, but I did recognize how well they fit together. That Secret Crush is a definite yin-yang balancing personalities type of relationship, and I was rooting for the 1000%!
I can understand that Reid's character might not be likable to all, and his type can easily fall on the side of way too much, but lucky for me, I didn't feel that way about him. He's obnoxious, and his sex-crazed comments are so eye-roll-inducing, but at the same time, I also couldn't help fighting a constant grin/laugh every time he'd say something completely ridiculous. There's a guy with a heart of gold and good intentions, plagued by past mistakes, whose insecurities have stopped him from moving forward.

I read That Forever Girl last time for the hat task.

Review — It is always a treat to read a book by Ms. Quinn! She creates such fun and quirky characters, and this story certainly delivers! I loved the different relationships explored throughout the story. Life-long friends, family, lovers. There was a lot going on, but Bonnie’s and Rowan’s story still took center stage. They are quite the pair and made for some seriously laugh-out-loud moments. However, there were some amazing tender moments as well.

Book: Curvy Girls Can't Date Quarterbacks by Kelsie Stelting
How it fits the task: the book has been shelved 19 times as sports & 11 times sports romance
Page count: 444 pages.
Date completed: Apr.18, 2022
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review: Curvy Girls Can't Date Quarterbacks is a sweet sport-romance YA. The Curvy Girls Club is its own-voices book; that's what Kelsie Stelting writes in her author's note. (The audiobook narrates the author's message and the acknowledgments, but not the epilogue.)
Of course, there was the mean girl, the overbearing parent, and the big secret that comes out and could ruin the whole relationship, but it wouldn't be a young adult book without those plot points! :) But I enjoyed it nonetheless! Yes, Curvy Girls Can't Date Quarterbacks is predictable but well done.
It is interesting how Stelting incorporates real issues that plus-sized girls and women face! It creates an authentic storyline filled with the real highs and lows of being larger than socially acceptable.
I liked both Rory and Beckett so much. Also, I appreciated the focus on PCOS, the medical culprit behind Rory's weight. As a PCOS-er myself, I know how it can wreak havoc on your body!
I also like Rory's relationship with Anna, the dyslectic girl she is tutoring. Rory has a big heart.
I am looking forward to continuing to read the HEA of the other members of The Curvy Girls Club.

Jett, Sawyer Bennett – 4/18/22 – ✮✮✮✰✰

Review — This wasn’t a bad book, but compared to others in the series it lacked character development. Jett has been the resident playboy since coming to the team and his shift to a full-on relationship wasn’t easy to accept. If there had been a bit more to his story or it was explained better why Emory was so different I wouldn’t have pulled a star. For her part, there is no good reasoning for why Emory was willing to take a chance on Jett and move from friends with benefits to something more so quickly. I liked both characters individually, but together they didn’t necessarily make sense. I was super happy to see a bit more of Riggs and to meet his sister…I’m certainly ready to jump into his book to know his story!

I wanted to love this one and give it *5 STARS* but I just couldn't get past what Allie did. The entire book it was such a black cloud over the happiness and sexy times these two had. So when it blew up in her face, I just want so raw from wanting to strangle her the whole book, I didn't know how to feel.
BECAUSE OTHERWISE THIS BOOK WAS FREAKING PERFECT! Loved it so much. Love Allie and Roan and was so bothered by the fact that she was ruined everything.
I know that was probably the whole point the author was trying to portray but it was just hard for me to see that a person who worked in PR would be that stupid!
Anyway, I love this Harris family. Seriously, I so do! Any time I get to spend with them is awesome. So I'll try to get over my issues with this facet of the book to appreciate this wonderful family and getting to spend time with them again.
The audio of this was fantastic. The epilogue was over the top Harris all the way too.

Thanks!

Review: This is a baseball related sports romance. Tenley and Rowan have both been hurt in previous relationships. Tenley is very guarded as her ex was abusive and she only usually goes for the 'safe' options. Rowan the baseball star was cheated on by his last girlfriend and usually only has hook ups. There is a lot of I want you, I don't want you which made my head hurt a little bit. Then Tenley decides she does want Rowan but needs to make him aware that her ex has just been released from prison and she thinks he will be after her. This section was all a bit rushed and disjointed for me. I think the author needed another 50-100 pages to provide more detail rather than being so matter of fact. It was still an ok read.

How the Book Qualifies ➔ team chose to read books from the In Death series
Review — This book was just as fun as the first time around! I really enjoy seeing Eve spread her wings and embrace “girly” stuff like a baby shower. Mind you, she does it begrudgingly, but I love seeing her pushed out of her comfort zone to deal with the baby stuff. The investigation was great, as always, but Eve and Roarke and their myriad emotions dealing with Mavis and Leonardo make this book!
