I think a giveaway is good. It can be hit or miss though I have done well with them - I gave away five signed copies. Beyond that I'm in the same boat with you and awaiting answers to your question. Best of Luck.
I am planning on making my ebook available for free in celebrating Read Across America Day. I am hoping this will generate some buzz and get some reviews too. Still setting things up on various social media sites and a new book site. Will post about it soon. Good luck and congrats on your new novel!
I'm still looking for the fountain of promotion myself but one thing I'm always hearing is promote your book before it's published and released. The idea is to build people's interest in the book so that way when it's released in still of potential buyers you have actual buyers. Of course social media is always good, giveaways and small promos here on GR are a good idea.
As a reviewer, may I suggest that you look at other reviewers on this site (and other sites - even Amazon and B&N) to see which ones read books in your genre. A good review from someone who has a blog or book review website is always good. But DO make sure you're approaching reviewers that read books in your genre. I find it very annoying to get requests to review books in genres that I wouldn't read even if they are written by the most famous authors in that genre. (No, Stephen King, I will NOT read your next novel, thank you very much.)
My company has developed a free mobile app that makes it easy for authors to promote their books in their own voice with short messages shared across social media and the web. Our Voicekick app is currently invitation only through Apple's App Store. If this sounds interesting, you can learn more and sign up for an invitation here: Voicekick - Rediscover the power of your own voice
Smashwords say that pre orders are the way to go, but you still have to market the book for weeks before the actual release. Unless you have a PR team, it's not that great an idea. People need to be able to get hold of the book, read it and get to review. I've just decided to release my Erotic Romance Novel for $1 for a short time and let nature take its course! Like everything in selling, book marketing is all trial and error.
I hope everybody is well.
I am looking for hints/tips on how to promote my first novel which I am hoping to release end of March/April time.
How did you promote your release/how do you plan on promoting?
Thanks in advance.
