The aesthetics of the covers are somewhat like the book.
**** I don't remember the exact size of the size of the bush, but it was enough room for two to crawl in.

Most Beloved Sister by Astrid Lindgren has a similar story, except both girls are blonde and there is a fantasy world underneath the bush where they ride horses, etc. Mentioning it just in case! Can you remember what kind of critters were involved?

It was a children's picture book, had a watercolor-y kind of aesthetic I think, lots of greenery/forestry.
The dark haired girl went into a forest and found a huge bush, size of a small cottage. A light-haired girl poked her head out and told her to come in. The inside of the bush was actually a dome-ish room with thick vine things as the covering. LH girl said they could be friends and come into the bush everyday to talk. DH girl agreed and so she came everyday and talked until dawn. There were critters that were also the LH girl's friends. I think they preferred LH girl over DH, dont remember. One day the DH came into the bush and (maybe when they were talking?) the LH girl said she won't be there anymore, like she had to leave or something. DH didn't say anything. The next day the DH girl came to the bush and it was empty, LH girl wasn't there. Not sure if the critters were gone or if they slowly left one by one. DH girl stood there alone and the book ends like that. I'm sure you can tell why I want to know what book it was.
