SOLVED. Children's Book series, possibly British since flashlights were called torches, about a group of 5 kids who solved mysteries. I read this in the early/mid 1970s. One of the main characters was Georgina, George for short. [s]

These books were similar to the Hardy Boys, but about a group of friends nicknamed the Five, who solved mysteries and got themselves in and out of trouble. I believe the characters were preteens or tweens with George being the inciter. I got the books from the library so they could be an older series.

Had it been 4 kids instead of 5, I would have suggested The Adventure Series (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adv...)

I wondered for about 10 seconds why they seemed so similar, then I realized they are from the same author :o
