Heidi LaPlante | 4 comments I read this book about 5 years ago. I remember the man lived in a house in the woods that kids would dare each other to go in because it was run down. The man ended up being loved by the kids once they got to know him. He had two huge wolves that lived with him. He could control the weather and communicate with any animal.

Heidi LaPlante | 4 comments I think he also was somehow “born” from the mud and eventually returned to the mud, but I could be mixing up two different books. I remember he was in love with a girl from his childhood. They ran away together once riding the wolves. I believe he left her because last he was afraid of her getting hurt-his emotions controlled the weather and that may have been why. I think she grew up to be a teacher and he still watched over her. Not sure I’m remembering the story correctly, but I LOVED the book because it was so different and very well written. The house in the woods he lived in had tons of cobwebs in it and holes in the ceiling. Hope some of this rings a bell with someone as it’s been driving me crazy trying to figure out the title of this book!
