Harlequin intrigue or romantic suspense. Read it around 8 years ago. It was a paperback. Its fiction murder detective romance mystery, second chance and secret baby.

Cover is a house (kind of looked like a cabin) with snow and one of the windows was light. There was a figure looking towards the house at the low left corner of the book you only seen his back


The hero and heroine met when the hero was undercover investigating the heroine father (can't remember the crime but was something to do with money) Heroine finds out and feels betrayed and leaves. The book starts a year or a little bit after a year with the heroine returning home with her baby son. I think the heroine was coming home to sell her family home, the heroine was wealthy but is now poor. Her father is missing and still being investigated. During the night men come to the house to kill the heroine, they shoot at the house. The police come and the hero is there and finds out he is a father. The heroine moves in with the hero for protection. The hero and heroine try to find her father, the heroine still believes that her father is innocent. They find him but it turns out he was guilty and he has been murdered and has been dead the whole time he was missing. Some scenes that I remember are
Hero and heroine are at the grocery heroine can't afford fruit because she has to buy diapers, hero is angry when he finds out and buys her fruit.
Heroine and baby meet hero family and there is a scene where the hero is in a bedroom breastfeeding her baby and is upset because she feels bad that the hero didn't meet his son sooner.
Hero has a large family with lots of siblings and neices and nephews one of the neices babysit the baby alot.
Heroine suffers from bad migraines and at one point hero put heroine to bed and watches American football with his son explaining the game to him.
When the heroine was away for that year and a bit she worked at a bed and breakfast so is now able to make beds (she was very wealthy with servants before this)
Hero almost lost his job due to the relationship between him and the heroine when he was undercover.
Baby gets kidnapped near the end of the book
The killer turns out to be someone the heroine has known all her life, I think he was a friend of her fathers.
Some vague information I remember
There was something to do with the bank
And there was a hate crime that the main characters came across, it involved to men who where in a relationship and a homophobics who vandalised I think their business.

it was based somewhere in America but can't tell you the state, I think it was a town, it definitely wasn't a city. it was published between 2000 and 2014
