The book (possibly series) starts out with the guy, some kind of cop, who has a hangover because he was out celebrating the night before. His wife is a nurse and is working at a hospital when the pandemic starts. He later finds out that she is killed during a fire at the hospital. Although her body is burned, he knows it is her because of the necklace she is wearing. His best friend is his female neighbor who is an ex-Israeli soldier/sniper. She has long hair that she is always putting into a ponytail. She collects guns and knives. Her live-in boyfriend turns into a zombie shortly after returning from a business trip. He starts showing symptoms while she is watching news about the pandemic on the TV. Her niece is upstairs sleeping over and the boyfriend kills the niece. She runs out of the house and to her cop neighbor's house. She ends up wearing his wife's clothes because hers are covered in blood. At some point, later in the book/series, they return to her house and have to kill the boyfriend and niece zombies in the upstairs hallway.
