SOLVED. children to tween book about a boy and his mom and it takes place in maine [s]

i read this book about 5 years ago. this little boy and his single mother go camping and they are in maine and they eat these big red hotdogs (idk its what i remember) and they fall asleep in the tent and he wakes up the next morning and his mom is gone. he goes to the gas station. this is all i remember and i think the word "elephant" is in the name. i remember really liking this book
