SOLVED. Older Childrens book about a wild snake kidnapped and put into a tank by an awful kid, who makes friends with a mouse named dinner. [s]

trying to find a book i read at sometime around 2014-2016, it was a book about a wild snake that got captured and put into captivity by an awful, bratty little boy. the boy at some point gives the snake a live mouse, naming it dinner, and the snake and the mouse become friends eventually. i think there was a tarantula involved in the plot at some point, too. it was a smaller chapter book, targeted towards older middle school kids i think. i loved it when i was younger and really wanted to find it.

the cover of the book, or the copy that i had, at least, was bright blue and had a picture of what looked kind of like a ball python on the cover. i swear the book was called a mouse named dinner or something, but nothing i look up shows me the book.
