SOLVED. Children's Picture book about a stuffed toy elephant left outside overnight. [s]

Edit: My vague google search terms worked! It was Laura Charlotte by Kathryn O. Galbraith.

A children's picture book. A child has a stuffed elephant toy. The toy gets left outside, I think overnight, and when found again it is damaged - I think the ear is torn. An adult helps repair the toy. I think the picture showed it as having ears that were pink checkered or pink gingham, but I don't remember if this was before or after the repair.
I read it in the early 90s, but I'm not sure if it was newly published or something that was handed down to me.
