April Challenge Rules

For April, we have decided to make a modified TBR Knockout Challenge! This will only be an individual challenge, but you can choose to participate in either the solo competitive or solo non-competitive portion of this challenge.

Now that the challenge has been introduced, here are the rules:

How the Challenge Works:
- Each participant will be required to make a TBR of 5-10 books by April 1st. This TBR can be changed at any time during the challenge
- Each participant will read books from their TBR in order to earn points or to simply get through some books they've been putting off for a while
- Participants will have both individual and universal logs
- Completed books must be logged in both of these logs

Set-Up for TBRs
Since we are doing a new and improved TBR Knockout Challenge, there will be an order that you must follow while reading books. Remember: you can change your TBR at any time during the challenge so if you're not in the mood for a book then you can change it to something else!

Using this structure, you can have 5 different options for your first book and that will narrow down to one for your fifth and sixth books before fanning out again. We have dubbed this an "hourglass" TBR and it provides a little more freedom when deciding what to read next!

Note: Each "Book (insert #)" should be a different book that way you can have choices as to what you're reading next (hide spoiler)]

General Rules:
(view spoiler)[- This challenge has an option, you can sign up for solo competitive or solo non-competitive
- Books below 100 pages don't count.
- Books of any language & genre will count.
- Books can be read in any format and the cover must be counted according to the edition read.
- If you are reading an audiobook, then count the page number of another edition.
- Books started in another month but finished in April will also count.
- Reviews and buddy reads are being counted this time.
- Graphic novels, manga, webtoons, etc will also count, as long as they are 100 pages and longer.
- Re-reads will count.
- Points and results will be tracked by moderators.
- Participants will have both an individual and universal log
- Completed books must be logged in both logs
- Both solo competitive and solo non-competitive will have to log books, but will have separate universal logs (hide spoiler)]

Point System for Solo Competitive:
(view spoiler)[- For each book completed from your TBR you will get +10 (in addition to page number, review, etc.)
- Books between 100-200 pages will have +10 points
- Books between 201-300 pages will have +20 points
- Books between 301-400 pages will have +30 points
- Books between 401-500 pages will have +40 points
- Books between 501-600 pages will have +50 points
And so on…
- Reviews are worth +5
- Buddy Reads in this group are worth +5
- If you complete all the books on your TBR (one book from each row 1-10), you will get +20 points, in addition to the points for each book.
- If you complete every book on your TBR (first of all, congratulations) you will get +50 points

sure! i'll give you an example so its clear.

you need to make a tbr by arranging books in the format given. that means, for the first row, you have to put the first book on your tbr. you can put 5 so you have options, and you can change your tbr anytime, but you can ONLY read one of these books first before moving to row to.

For eg, if your first 5 book options are-

Letters to the Lost The Ghosts We Keep The Gilded Wolves The Silvered Serpents The Bronzed Beasts

You can pick any of these options and read them. The rest of the format goes the same way! Hope this cleared things a bit, but feel free to ask more questions. :)

yes this is the user id! we ask for both as sometimes people have the same names and it gets confusing to keep track of the points. :)

I just made my TBR list and then I reread through all of the directions and I saw a part that said we have to read them in order. Do we need to read a book from each row in order or could we just pick a book from whatever lines and start it? Or would that go against the rules?

To answer your question, you have to read one book from each row, but you can adjust your TBR at any time as you read. So you have to read one book from each row to move on to the next but you don't have to read all 5 books from row 1 to move on :)
