Take a look at TvTropes' My Own Grampa, https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph..., in the literature section, which includes obvious options like All You Zombies, but also additional books.
I think he had lunch with his grandmother at a cafe at a military base and changed his mind from "I can't sleep with my grandmother" to "gosh I have to sleep with my grandmother or I don't exist" I have the vague sense that she was some kind of auxiliary and it was a WWII--era and that the facility was "high tech" (airbase / manhattan project / etc.) but I'm even less sure about each more specific detail. Pretty sure the military would've been US or UK.
It's probably a science fiction book published in the 70s or earlier. But that's really more about me than the story. It's also probably in this house.
I believe I read sometime between 1985 and 2015 which is likely not very helpful. Maybe early 2000s?
My memory is kindof awful and blurry in general, so everything above is suspect. (I hope that doesn't disqualify the post; I'm doing my best!). I'm not even sure if it's novel length or a short story. I'm confident I read it on paper so if it's a short story it'd have to be in a collection or in Astounding or something. I would love any answer that matches even just the _topic_regardless of the rest of the description.
My memory of it certainly feels like it could be Heinlein but it doesn't sound like any story of his I can find a reference to, including Zombies. It's definitely not Time Enough for Love which I finished rereading last night.
It sounds like it might be this unsolved one: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
And less like this:

From the other thread I haven't firmly rule out that it's The Timed Clock but it doesn't sound like it. Need to find a better synopsis.
