Thank you! I got so frustrated when it kept switching. What did you type in?
I'm already three books done on my skip list and started the last one this morning so I'll probably skip anyway but I tend to get task repeats frequently.

No problem :) I have a sample shelf bookmarked because I know how annoying it can be to get to this specific view, so I just replaced the word in that URL with "England" 😅

Kristie | 3595 comments Here's the main page for shelf searches: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf You just type in whoever shelf you are looking for in the search bar.

Would "need-to-buy" as a tag work?

Rules with tags is that it always needs to be the exact tag, only exception is the plural/singular version of it.

However - it would be great if we could have a modification on these types of tasks. I just got "want" which is similarly impossible as "need", but "want-to-buy" is everywhere ...

If anyone is looking for a laugh... I've already checked dozens of books and the only thing I've found that works for "want" so far is The Winds of Winter 🫠

selection of brightly coloured mazes for children

You now have multiple options for task selection for your maze. You can use the traditional set (general) which has multiple difficulty settings, or you can pick one of the additional genre linked task sets (which are the same difficulty regardless of whether you select easy, medium or hard).

Massive thank you to Sammy for all her help with the task creation.

I'm about to start archiving some of the more impossible tasks - book depository I'm coming for you!

message 1369: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments Yikes, good luck rooting out all those devils, lol.

message 1370: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments omg that looks so fun!!

Thanks ladies for all the hard work you're putting into this challenge :) it's my favorite individual one as it always keeps me motivated to keep going!

message 1371: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Also, I spy a "create a maze" button at the top of the page now, does that mean we can have multiple mazes running at the same time (e.g. a general and a genre-specific one)? 👀

message 1372: by Sammy (last edited Mar 22, 2024 05:41AM) (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments I just did 😆

But to be fair I'll only use a book in one or the other, not both.

message 1373: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
So I think I've caught some of the nearly impossible ones - will be keeping an eye out for more.

want/need as tags have now got (to read) in brackets after so those phrases can be used.

message 1374: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
And yes - we can now have multiple mazes! Please don't go too crazy as it's all run off a server in my house that my husband maintains not one of the big AWS or google ones.

message 1375: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Awesome, thank you! :)

I'll definitely keep myself in check regarding additional mazes 😅 I can't decide yet which genre I'd want anyway... I'll have to think a bit longer before I make a decision

message 1376: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments If it helps, the genre tasks lend themselves to certain genres, but not all of them require you to read said genre, if that makes sense.

Judy | 4065 comments Kristie wrote: "What do you all use to find a word in the text? I used to use the 'look inside' feature on Amazon, but it's not there anymore."

Preferably I'll search my Kindle. If I don't have the book on there, Google Books is an option, but it's very hit or miss whether you'll be able to search the text of the specific book you're looking for. I also sometimes get the ebook from my library just for the purpose of using the search function to find a word

message 1380: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Thanks, Judy. I'll have to check out Google Books.

If you select the physical or kindle version of the book there should be a "read sample" button under the book image, which takes you to what used to be the "look inside" interface. 😊

message 1382: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Thanks, Sammy. I completely forgot that! I think it still checks the whole book, but do you know if it looks inside the whole book or just the sample?

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12864 comments Kristie wrote: "Thanks, Sammy. I completely forgot that! I think it still checks the whole book, but do you know if it looks inside the whole book or just the sample?"

I think it depends on the book. It can do either. I find that new releases generally only allow you to search the first couple of chapters.

Kristie | 3595 comments Thanks again, Sammy. :)

Katrina | 27 comments Hello! I am going to try join the challenge :)

I don't quite understand my first task though - Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as 2003 - plurals and spelling acceptable.

Please help!

message 1389: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Hi Katrina :)

For the "shelved as" tasks, you go to the top shelves page of a book, e.g. https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve... and check whether the tag ("2003" in this case) is on the first page there

To get to this view from the book page, you look at the genre list, then click on "...more", then on "...show all"

A tip to help you find something that works:

To find a book shelved as 2003, you probably need to primarily look at older books, for example books people have read in 2003, or books that were published in 2003. To find ideas, it can be helpful to also look at the 2003 genre page: https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

Keep in mind this page doesn't know whether 2003 is among the top tags for the book, it just tells you how many people have tagged it as such, so you'll probably have to do a lot of digging to find something here.

In my experience, tags for years before Goodreads existed are tough to find something for, but maybe you'll strike gold quickly. Good luck and have fun!

Lyndi (mibookobsession) (mibookobsession) | 149 comments My Task: Read a book shelved (listed on the first page on GR) as north-america. There are so many great books on the list, but the most any of them are shelved as North America is 136, not enough to rate anywhere close to the first page of shelves.
I'll have to skip this one.

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1566 comments FINE! You've convinced me to start a new maze Sammy! So, if we choose Fantasy, we aren't required to read only a fantasy, the tasks will just be more lonely to work for a fantasy book?

message 1394: by Sophie, The other one (new)

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
You can read any genre you'd like so long as it works for the task. The mazes aren't being selective.

message 1395: by Keli (new)

Teehee! Yep, like Sophie said, you can read what you want, though some tasks will be easier filled with Fantasy books in the fantasy maze, etc. and every now and then there will be something a touch more specific. (MPG tasks and such)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments well damn now I want a crime/mystery/thriller maze and I barely even made a dent in my original one so far.

message 1400: by Christina (new)

Christina (chrissy__) | 3007 comments I assume if we have two mazes going on at the same time and my book works for both mazes I can only use it for one of them though. Is this correct??
