Vaidehi | 228 comments Thanks a ton Sophie!

I found the book: "Six of Crows" by Leigh Bardugo. I haven't read it although it is so popular. Now I'll catch up.

Not sure what direction you are going in but what about Alas, Babylon?

Jenny | 8050 comments That one is on my TBR, too. I will see if page count works for direction. Thank you.

Tricia, assume the normal guide: 50% cover should be the required colour.

If I have to choose between blue & green... left one I'd say blue, right one I'd call green

message 561: by ♞ Pat (last edited May 18, 2022 12:55PM) (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 916 comments tineye color extraction is usually pretty reliable. LOL If you get a 50/50 or relatively close ratio, then I'd say you're in the right ballpark for teal (more green), turquoise (more blue)

Tin Eye is calling the Louise Erdrich book 79% blue and the Kiss Quotient one 82% blue. So ::shrug:: you can pretend you didn't see this post and go on about your business.

Green covers are notoriously hard to come by.

I'm reading The Water Keeper (Murphy Shepherd #1) by Charles Martin which ended up right at 70% green. Is it good? Who knows? Guess we will see!

Oh awesome! Thanks!! One on the left came up all blue - no green at all! The one on the right came up about 45% green but it turned out it was filtering out the main background color. Once I added that in, it was pretty much blue. So the hunt continues! ;)

Yeah. When I'm hunting for a green cover, I just grab whatever I can find on the shelf. They just don't seem to be all that common.

being a UNO player (Perks hosts it with signups in January each year), I can turn to their handy-dandy lists:
use the genre search function for uno-green / uno-blue / uno-red / uno-yellow for books that have editions probably meeting the colour requirements :)

How do I sign up to get notified of the challenge next year?

message 568: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10094 comments Mod
For Perks / UNO, you'd need to be a member of the Perks group (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...) - they send a broadcast message in January.

For our team challenges, this thread can be helpful: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/..., but we do also announce in the monthly broadcast messages too. Generally we have one challenge that starts shortly after UNO ends (so signups in April for a May start) and a second in the Autumn.

My first task is to read a book from the best series list. Can I read a book that is 2nd in the series? I am pretty sure that is what it means but just want to double check :)

message 571: by Karen ♐ (new)

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 1865 comments I got my first task also and at the bottom of the page for the Maze, you can check a box if the title is N-Z. Does it have to be those letters or if you don't read a book starting with those letters, will it count? Also, does a, an, the count?

Look closer. The page numbers and the letters denote the direction you will move. If it is only giving you one option, then you can only move in that direction, and follow those letters. If you have a book like "The Animal", you can use it that way, or "Animal, The".

If you want to move in a particular direction, you must complete the correct requirements. So if you want to move South, the title of the book you read needs to start with the second half of the alphabet. If you want to move east or west, title doesn't matter, but number of pages does. Does that help?

And if it starts with A, An, or The, you can use those as the first letter or not, depending on what helps you out. Up to you!
