Alicia | 1 comments I read a book around May 2021 and I cannot remember which one it is. I don't know if I may be mixing different books in my memory since I read more than 200 last year. What I remember may be Spoilers (sorry!!).

I think the headmaster/director/ high wizard/whatever ended up being a traitor. He wanted the heroine or the hero to find some crystals or stones to achieve more power or liberate someone/something. He or his predecesor had used them in the hero, making him kill someone for the first time. He was manipulating him. The hero wasn't strong enough. May have erased some memories and a cave may be involved.

Heroine works and lives in the tower as a librarian. She finds secret messages or letters in books. May be exchanging them with a shadowes figure who ends up being the hero (or maybe it was a trick from the villain).

At some point the best friend dies and leavea a secret message in a bracelet that she had given the heroine. They can listen to it by placing it under water or in a special chamber just for that. People who can create those messages have a special power (one of the difference types of powers/graces/skills/races the world has).
The city celebrates a festival and hero and heroine go to a market. There may be an incident in the market. They may ride on horse, or someone in the story rides a horse despite having an injury or similar. There may be an old house with a front garden bought by a merchant in a rich neighborhood.

The hero and heroine may be able to fly, and there may be a scene where he throws her from a tower.

I thought it was from Sarah J. Maas but I haven't been able to place it.
