That was such a typical Eve/Feeney moment. (view spoiler)

that scene had me cracking up

I think you can count on that! The party will be hilarious.

You know I did like the scene but for me I loved the McNabb Eve moment. I thought it was really sweet too.

And I wonder if she's learned to say Summerset's name properly:)

McNabb doesn't have one... Yet. Maybe it's because he does more of the grunt work in than out in the open where there'd be more risks.
I also want to know if Bella can say Summerset's name properly or not. I'm laughing just thinking about it. Haha.

I thought she was humanized more in this story. I'm hoping Robb takes the time to slowly peel back her layers. She reminds me of my initial reaction to Eve...didn't like her all that well. But, as I learned more about her, I found Eve courageous and admirable.
Jury is still out for me with DeWinter for that reason.

I think that too. I did see something more which is why I would like to see how JD plays her character out. She could probably become a great member but it is hard to say. She definitely reminds me of Eve especially with her stickler for the rules attitude when it comes to the job.
And, in fairness to DeWinter, she's walking into a group where they've created a circle of friendship and dynamics. She's the outsider...the new kid. Sometimes that's hard to penetrate initially. Let's face it...Eve's been our prickly pear and it took a bit to get used to her.

Amen to that. I still have moments with Eve even now so that is very true. It is interesting because some characters she has introduced have not been had to accept into the fold. She is the first character for me that didn't go that way. Even Garcia had that first head butt with Eve but I still accepted her without issue. Coltrane wasn't liked by Eve and Peabody but I could still like her because of Morris.
It is just interesting to see how she will come into the fold.
Great points, Songbyrd! It feels like Robb has a specific plan for this character. I'm intrigued.

I agree - it's always so hard to be the new kid on the block. She may eventually become close friends with Eve. Or maybe DeWinter and Summerset - now wouldn't that be a hoot.

I still seriously think that she will surprise us with who she pairs DeWinter with. I honestly don't think it will be Morris. I have a feeling that they really will just be friends. I still think Baxter especially after seeing him in this book.

I agree about Morris. For a moment I considered the deputy sheriff, William Bannon.

Oh I loved him!!! He was country boy smart and so laid back cool. I loved his part.
I also really hope that the officer mentioned at the beginning of Calculated is chosen as a add on to the team. You know the officer who told Eve that the first murder didn't feel like a mugging and Eve let her help out. I can't remember the officer's name though.

I really hope so. I think she will be a great addition to the crew and I really hope we do see the Sheriff Bannon again. Very smart man and a determined one also sweet and funny.

Oh and I still think her and Trueheart but will see.

I'm so very tired today because I stayed up last night reading and hoping to find some redeeming quality for my character that I love to hate... Garnet DeWinter.
I didn't find one.
I do really love the story though. It amazes me that JD can keep these books fun and captivating to read after all this time; even if she is killing me with her version of Cruella Deville. LOL
Oh, I didn't expect you would...not gonna happen as long as things stay the same with your former boss:)

I agree. I think it will take something close to a miracle to make you think of her otherwise. I have to admit that I didn't change my opinion either but I am trying to see how JDR takes her character too.

Okay, I know some of you really liked this one. But I have to say I enjoyed FESTIVE and OBSESSION much more than this one. It just seems Roarke got short shrift. I just don't feel that JDR gave this her usual attention. But, if she had the book with Mr Mira in her head the whole time, she may have been distracted.
PS - I agree about DeWinter. I keep on waiting for her to do something evil.

I think DeWinter is one of those women that gravitate towards men and Morris came to "her house" in Concealed. In my opinion that is a concession to her status. Morris is the type of person who knows his skills and doesn't need to beat people over the head with it. That said I'm happy that she is his friend.

Well I never thought of her trying to show her position with Morris by inviting him to her home in order to gain the upper hand so to speak. I saw it as just that, she invited a friend over. But do agree that she would get along better with men yes, but only because there is no competition in a male friendship.

I really like the Roarke scene when he comes home and finds an unknown cop in Eve's office. Roarke never gets upset about these things. Roarke getting upset makes the scene feel a little more real.
Roarke rarely brings his bad days home with him. It is natural for him to want quiet home time with his wife when he does.
It is funny when he walks in on Eve's phone conversation and she gives him the hold on signal so he can stew a little more. In the end he understands but tells Eve to add notification to her marriage rules.
I loved the whole interaction from when Roarke first happens upon Bannion through the scene with Eve.

I didn't mean her home. I meant that Morris came to her lab to look at the bones instead of having them delivered to the morgue. It gives DeWinter the upper hand.

Wow, I didn't remember that. I thought they were delivered to her lab area at the forensic building. I know she works in the building with Berinsky and the sweeper workers. Which I think is a separate building from the Morgue. Am I wrong? I need memory help.

In all the previous books all remains were sent to the morgue. I suspect that building is separate from the other buildings because Eve and Peabody often drive to the morgue instead of leaving the car at central.
I just feel that it is significant that Morris being the senior employee went to DeWinter's lab instead of DeWinter going to the morgue.
If I have still thoroughly confused everyone I'm just going to let this go. Sorry.

You know that maybe another reason I am not feeling her. I am not gonna lie. As much as I love this series. Eve can still rub me wrong in some things she does but I still like her at the same time.

I agree that sometimes Eve can be overly harsh and annoying, but she's come a long way. Even though there are so many books, it's only been a couple of years, so she wouldn't have completely changed.
I like seeing a little angst with Eve and Roarke again, and Roarke's "dark" side. He's so smooth and cool, you almost forget he's deadly sometimes.
