I read this a few years ago and I remember that the cover pictured the boy and the girl. I think the title was one word but I can't be sure.
The setting is in high school.
The girl becomes deaf after some kind of accident. I think it involved a pool.
The boy has a speech impediment and he is the only person the girl can understand (because he talks so slow that she can read his lips).
The two fall in love and at the end of the book the girl somehow gets her hearing back
