Read this book as a kid in the 90s. I have vague memories that I might be mixing with other things, but it was definitely almost all pictures and a larger, hardcover book, though not very long. Each page would have riddles you'd have to solve in order to progress the protag to the next story. Maybe started by receiving a mystery invitation/box? I recall an underwater scene where you had to get a key from an octopus to drain the room. There was also a scene of an impossible staircase that you had to escape.

For anyone looking for a puzzle book, this list was my ultimate savior and looks pretty comprehensive.
