so there was this comic book/graphic novel my friend found at the local library years ago - it was a webcomic (maybe) that got printed, hardcover and full glossy pages, about a girl who goes to school but the school is a liminal space and the woods are definitely enchanted but the slightly uncanny kind and there's a trickster fox spirit who may or may not have been in love with her mother.
There were at least 3 volumes at the time

Was the comic in black-and-white, or full colour? Can you be more specific about which year / decade you read it?

The Skeleton Key series by Andi Watson (first book - Skeleton Key Volume 1: Beyond the Threshold) has a girl and a kitsune / fox spirit, but it sounds like she goes to a regular school.
